Arrow BOXING 2008 – Trinidad vs Jones – 01/19/2008

SATURDAY, JANUARY 19th, 2008 at 9PM ET/ 6PM PT on HBO PPV - Madison Square Garden, New York

12 round CATCH WEIGHT 170 pounds BOUT
  • Felix "Tito" Trinidad (42-2, 35 KOs) +320
  • Roy Jones Jr. (51-4, 38 KOs) -380

Roy Jones use to be my favorite fighter, and has lost a lot. I really think he needs to stay retired. Tito needs to stay home as well. I hope to see a good fight between these two past champions.

I'm actually anticipating a pretty entertaining fight, even though the bout has little to no significance. I find it rather amusing that people complain this fight is 5-8 years too late - Roy would have outclassed Tito back then, and he'll win with ease just the same tonight.

It's also worth noting just how bad Tito looks with the added weight. I'm not playing this fight, as I can't trust Jones to take any chances and be aggressive enough to get the stoppage (even though a KO is a very realistic possibility), and I missed the boat on getting a good number with RJJ via decision, but either way Roy wins with ease tonight.

Not ordering, but viewing at above link as I normally do. Felix lost horribly at 160 to Winky Wright...and he is going to be the slower, weaker fighter tonight against RJJ. I see RJJ getting a KO/TKO based on the fighting weight and long layoff for Felix. How do you come in overweight at a weightclass 10 pounds higher than you have ever fought.

I also think RJJ might want this to be his big statement before retiring. We haven't had a good fight in awhile from him to remember him by.

After seeing Tito weigh in yesterday, I think I'm leaning towards Roy by stoppage.

Jones won a clear decision. He could've stopped Trinidad in my opinion, but I originally feared he might've been a little gun-shy and he indeed was throughout the fight.

I agree, but he always has been somewhat defensive...I thought coming off the losses and not looking great in his last couple wins he would want to make a huge statement. He looked very good and would like to see him fight a real contender.

I do think a lot of his problems came from the weight changes of going up to heavyweight and then dropping back down. I know it was making history with someone his size doing that, but it seems to have tarnished what people thought of his fighting ability.

If this fight was in both their primes RJJ probably wins by KO...and not a person here would have thought about betting on Tito.

Roy Jones' defense surprised me. While most people including myself expected him to be in his open guard moving around the ring trying to outbox Tito, he actually employed Winky's full guard and walked Tito down for the second half of the fight, blocking most of Trinidad's shots.

Jones still won't beat Calzaghe, though.

I seen the replay on HBO tonight. Jones looked sharp. It would be nice to see him fight Hopkins or Calzaghe.

How was the post fight interview with Jones? Because the replay didn't show that, and that is one of the great things about Jones fights, the post fight interveiw.
