This is my first post here. I've always been an avid sports fan, but boxing has always been my specialty (at least according to me, that is
).Confidence Pick: Expect Chagaev to win a decision over Skelton. There is a possibility of a stoppage, however keep in mind that Chagaev is coming off of a long layoff and will most likely try to outbox the aggressive Skelton. Skelton's simply not skilled enough to beat Chagaev. Upset Alert: Everyone's underestimating Verno Phillips, but this guy is a consumate boxer, even more so than Spinks himself. Anyone remember the twelve round rumble with Ike? Verno can still do twelve hard rounds, takes a good shot, has a good defense, still has good legs, knows how to cut off a ring, and punches real hard. Please note that I'm not suggesting that Phillips will beat Spinks; in fact, I see Spinks winning a decision. But if you want to take a risk this Saturday, pick Phillips over Spinks. My Lock: Karmazin over Bunema under 8.5 rounds. Karmazin wants to impress at the Garden and he is dedicating this match in the memory of two New York officers killed in the line of duty. Though not a puncher by nature, Karmazin can easily stop a stationary target such as Bunema. Main Event: It's not a matter of whether or not Jones will beat Tito, but rather it's a matter of whether Jones will cruise to a decision or will he stop Tito. Though Jones is nearly 40 years old, he still possesses arguably the fastest hands in the division. Meanwhile, Tito is coming off of a 2 year layoff and the ring rust will hinder him in this bout. Jones is bigger, stronger, and faster. Expect Jones to lay on the ropes frequently and as Tito unloads, watch for the right hand counter by Jones. As for whether he wins by decision or knockout, it's a tough choice but I would say that Jones remains gun-shy and cruises to an easy win. Hope this helps some of you. |

Welcome. Nice to have another boxing guy around.
Spinks via decision will be my biggest play this week. I don't think at 38 Verno's capable of outpointing Cory, and Spinks will stay on the outside and neutralize Phillips' desire to trade and utilize his power advantage. In terms of there being some value with Verno at +400 or so, I'd tend to agree, as I'd never lay the -500 with Spinks, but taking the decision prop (-150?) with guys like Cory and Malignaggi, who aren't threats to stop any halfway capable opponent, is the better alternative. Spinks wins a UD in a yawner. Completely agree with your analysis of the RJJ/Tito fight. Roy's simply too big and his hand speed is still superior to that of Trinidad. This isn't a fight Tito can win. My first reaction upon the news of this fight being made was Roy via mid-round stoppage, but now I'm almost inclined to think Tito makes it the distance. Roy's never taken many chances in the ring, even more so now that his skills have diminished. If RJJ lets his hands go, Tito will be laid out, but who knows what Roy will show up. One left hook from Jones that lands flush and Tito's night's over, but betting on Roy to be aggressive is a dangerous proposition. I'll probably be passing on this one. |

Phillips is getting up their in age, so picking him over Spinks might be riskier than it appears. But I think it's a great risk to take if you're willing to gamble. I think I'm just going to play it safe and put a wager of something like $200 for Jones to win. Also, I like Mollo to knock out Golota. Golota has never been one to handle a pressure fighter well. Hell, McBride almost had him out in the first round! Mollo's no world-beater, but he should handle Golota easily. |

No, I haven't. I had noticed the last few weeks that the fight was missing from a few of the weekly schedules, but never heard officially that it was a no-go.

It's official. Spinks/Phillips got scrapped.
But my new lock is Devon Alexander over DeMarcus Corley. At almost 3-1, this is easy money. Chop Chop Corley is shot beyond belief and Alexander is a magnificent talent. Alexander has won his last 5 fights by stoppage and Chop Chop Corley is 0-3 since 2006 while coming off of 2 awful losses to mediocre opposition. You're getting better odds on this one than the Jones/Trinidad fight. You can bet that Alexander will want to impress on the big stage at the Garden in his first PPV undercard while Corley is just there to collect a check. My pick is Alexander by stoppage. If you had to bet the farm on one fight, this one is it. |

Yeah, Spinks is a bore to watch, but I think the fight is just postponed.
Spinks said it will most likely take place next month. |
