UFC 79: Nemesis (Hughes VS Serra) (Liddell VS Silva)
Saturday Decemember 29th on PPV. Man this card is stacked! Can't wait to see how Sokojduo does in his UFC debut. He was killing everyone in Pride (knocked out Arona and Noguira). Should be interesting to see if he can beat the undefeated Machida. Also I hope Serra knocks Hughes out, but I don't see Hughes loosing (I hope Serra wins!).
UFC World Welterweight Championship
Matt Serra(C) vs. Matt Hughes
Undercard
Wanderlei Silva vs. Chuck Liddell
Rich Clementi vs. Melvin Guillard
Dean Lister vs. Jordan Radev
Nate Mohr Vs Manny Gamburyan
Doug Evans vs. Mark Bocek
Roan Carneiro vs. Tony DeSouza
Sokojduo vs Royto Machida

yeah, here's the link for everyone... http://www.ufc.com/index.cfm?fa=news.detail&gid=8808
Definitely sucks considering the weak UFC 78, and I was actually looking forward to this fight. Oh well, as long as Wanderlei still gets to beat on Chuck, I'm happy.

Well the rumor is that GSP will now be fighting Hughes and the winner will be awarded the UFC Welterweight interim champion ,and if Serra can fight within 1 year he will fight the interim champion and if not he will be striped of the title and the interim title becomes the "real" champion.

One day following the news that UFC 170-pound champion Matt Serra (Pictures) had withdrawn from his Dec. 29 title defense against Matt Hughes (Pictures) because of injury, the UFC announced Georges St. Pierre (Pictures) would fight Hughes for an interim title.
St. Pierre and Hughes have fought twice, splitting the bouts. Hughes recaptured the welterweight belt after it was vacated by B.J. Penn (Pictures) in the first fight, while St. Pierre stopped Hughes in the rematch to capture the UFC belt.
"I'm so excited to get this fight," said St. Pierre in a statement on UFC.com. "I'm fighting Matt Hughes (Pictures) for the interim title right now, and then after that I'm going to go after Serra. I've wanted that rematch against Serra, and this is the best scenario that can happen."
"Rush" lost the title to Serra in February of this year. The division championship, due mainly to the UFC promoting a Serra-Hughes title fight via the sixth season of "The Ultimate Fighter," which concludes in December, has been in hiatus, having only been up for grabs once in 2007. St. Pierre-Hughes is slated for five five-minute rounds.
The current champion, desperately wanting to fight Hughes, is now relegated to cheering for the former two-time UFC king.
"I can't believe the position this puts me in," Serra said on UFC.com. "I'm actually rooting for Matt Hughes (Pictures) so I can beat his ass."

look for hughes to go back to his roots and try to wrestle GSP to death which is his best bet
unfortunately for him, GSP's takedown defense and overall wrestling has steadily improved to the point where there is little to no edge for Hughes in the wrestling department
I don't know if Hughes can even out gastank GSP
Hughes' best chance is a to win on cuts via elbow off a takedown
more than likely he will get one or two takedowns with many more stuffed and eventually tko'd

Its good value based on the fact that its hughes and odds like that should be taken for the best a wight division has seen. GSP may be better and more skille, but thats a nice bet IMO.
With that being said, I dont know how this fight will go. I can See matt dominating and putting on a clinic to declare he is the best. Or i can see Georges outclassing Matt and taking it into later rounds.

I'm looking to go myself. I was looking at airfare last night, and the cheapest from Newark is $429 round trip. Add that up with a ticket, and I'm looking around $600-$700 for one night of fun. Plus, $3000-$4000 on Wanderlei. That's a $5000 night for me. Obviously not telling the wife about the Wanderlei play, but I would have to explain leaving her home, going to vegas for a night by myself, and spending $700. If I can pull off getting airfare for around $250 I'll definitely be ther | |
