Seriously how do you guys feel about Nelson vs. Werdum fight?

What's Roy @ -105? Is he injured or something ? Any inside info?

I personally would have had this Nelson -180 Werdum +155

Nelson is coming off a win and Werdum is coming off a loss.

Roy Nelson has decent striking IMO. Guys, He hung in there with a very, VERY hungry JDS and even landed some clean strikes on Junior. Werdum got KTFO by JDS.

Roy has the ability to keep this fight standing and does not have to go to the ground with Werdum . He can easily keep this fight standing as he (Like Overeem) will NOT let Werdum lure him into a grappling match during the fight.

I have met Werdum plenty of times and have seen him train alot here in Huntington Beach lately.

Here's some inside Info: Werdum is not 100%. He is Injured. His Knee is NOT 100% AT ALL. He's not training his MT 100% training with soft guys and his lateral movement is slacking. BUT HE IS NOT A UFC FIGHTER YET HE CAN'T BOW OUT OF THIS ONE HE IS COMING FROM STRIKEFORCE SO HE'S TAKING IT NO MATTER WHAT INJURED OR NOT.

So if someone knows Nelson is injured or something is wrong with his training camp I would like to know.

There you go SBR. Had to get that off my chest. POUND POUND POUND.

Nelson takes this. Watch the line move

get that money. Thank me later.

Roy is at +115 . Holy shit.

Must be the Frank Mir fight. Roy was VERY INJURED/SICK coming into that fight. I would hate if anyone based their opinion of Nelson off of the events that took place in that fight.

Roy Nelson even went to join Frank Mir and train with him after losing to him.

Remember the new and improved Nelson we saw fight Cro Cop?

He looked great against Cro Cop.

He lost a bunch of a weight grew that nasty beard and worked really hard on his wrestling. Took Cro Cop down and battered him, also hung in there very well striking in the standup.

Let's talk about this fight. Gabe? Vaughany? I haven't seen talk about this on either of your threads. Money to be made here gentlemen.

I will be looking to wager 5 Units on Roy Nelson. and a bit on Nelson via TKO or Decision when that line comes out.

If you want to bet Nelson I would wait
Countdown will show highlights of werdum beating fedor and losing a close decision to overreem

Nelson has not beat anyone relevant

  5. #5

Do you guys know what I'm saying about Werdum not being about to pull out of this fight like a normal UFC fighter being that he is coming from Strikeforce and has NO leverage in this situation. He's gotta fight injured.

I will be watching the line and will more than likely get a better price come fight night.

Just wanted to warn/let you all know what's really good in this matchup... Also want SBR to talk about this fight since I DID NOT SEE MUCH talk of it in the other threads.

Love that you mentioned this man. It's not all about who they beat or who they lost to...

It's mostly about who has a better skillset, who is closer to 100% ready to fight and who will be the better fighter come Saturday night.

If someone were to watch the Countdown, Scope the Line and then make their bet on Werdum they would be walking right into a TRAP bet.

Just looking out for you all Werdum's not 100% and must take this fight no matter what. I'm positive.

    Money to be made here.

I too thought Roy Nelson would come in as a favorite. Wonder what type of shape Roy would come into. If Fabricio wins I could only see him winning by decision. Roy has one of the best chins in the heavyweight division. I believe he has only been knocked out by Arlovski, and Roy has great bjj.

"I can tell you that he'll need to keep his hands up, because a knockout might happen. He'll need to keep his hands way up, in high guard. I think I'll hit his legs a lot. Roy Nelson is very tough and can endure a lot of beating, he showed that against [Junior dos Santos], but there's always a weak spot. I'll try to look for that flaw during the fight. I think I will win with agility and mobility. I am well mentally, as well as physically, much faster and this will be determinant in this fight, due to the fact that he's slower, a fatty. It will be a very strategic fight. It's my return to the UFC, it will be very important to me. When I have the opportunity to KO or submit, I will do it. I don't like to win by points, it happens sometimes, but my prevision is this: knockout or submission. The main thing is the victory."

I am on the Nelson side here. My previous post is to how I believe the public will view it.
Public: OMG, Werdum beat Fedor!!! Easy win against Nelson
Public 2 agreeing: Yeah all Nelson did was KO chinless Schaub and CroCop

I think Nelson can move forward and put pressure on Werdum. Moreover, Nelson has much better wrestling and trips than Werdum. Both are rather older, and Nelson has had his share of knee issues.

I would like to take Nelson around +160 or better

  11. #11

Yes I have seen him in person 3 times in past 2 weeks I saw him training I was thinking who are these guys he's rolling with striking with? 150-200lb guys that aren't MMA fighters how's he gonna defeat Roy Nelson training like this?

Roy Nelson's probably in Vegas training with big ass dudes like Frank Mir who can grapple and kick some serious ass.

I remember for the Overeem fight Werdum looked like a fuckin BEAST they brought in all kinds of help to get him prepared for that fight.

This time around it's sad guys he's not 100% but he must fight he's gotta fight Roy Nelson.

Why the hell the Books have him as a favorite is beyond me. I guess they know people will blindly put their money on Werdum after watching the countdown or knowing he beat Fedor and straight get their bets spoiled.

I think he looks like he just finished training. I look like death when I walk out of the gym.

Ill be on Nelson as well, and I definitely see the line improving closer to the day of the fight.

Waiting to see if the line improves before I take him straight up.

Yes. Alot. Saw Shogun train there for his first day of the Griffin Camp.(Unreal) Wanderlei was there, Babalu, Mark Munoz. They were ALL THERE at one point my dude. That's when Werdum was at his best training/sparring/rolling with pro fighters and great athletes. Right now THEY ARE ALL ABSENT. I think Wand is in Vegas, Shogun is in Brazil, Mark Munoz is doing rehab for his elbow and Babalu, idk he's not there alot anymore.

i think werdum got this, showed improved hands in overeem fight, world class ground game, wont get stuck under big country. werdum all day

are people in this thread on drugs?

what the hell does nelson coming off a win and werdum coming off a loss have to do with anything?

    i don't even know how werdum isn't -250 here.

bigger than roy, better striker, better wrestling, better jiujitsu, better cardio, has beaten better fighters.

nelson wins this via one punch, and that's about it.

maybe you're right that werdum is injured, but he still beats roy.

Dude Nobody is on drugs here. Kush only. Let's discuss this matchup.

Werdum is a great fighter and at his best would defeat Roy Nelson pretty convincingly. He is nowhere near 100% right now, though. Unless something is up with Roy that we don't yet know about I see this line accurate at all. Roy Nelson's been working on his cardio, wrestling and has lost alot of weight, remember? I think Roy keeps it standing and for the most part is ontop once this fight does hit the mat. Werdum will have no problem pulling guard and whether or not he can submit Roy Nelson with an injured knee well I guess we'll find out.

I just don't see Roy getting beat up by Werdum, convincingly. I believe Roy is the more exciting fighter and can definitely see this fight going the distance.

I'm on Werdum, I like how he fights in this highlight video.

  28. #28

Not impressed with Werdum's sparring...... Nelson all day long

  29. #29

I'm on Werdum here and honestly expected him to open at around -200. Roy may have looked good against CC... but that doesn't mean a whole lot nowadays when guys are regularly betting KOTN on ANY of CC's opponents. Werdum is naturally a bigger HW and held his own on his feet against Overeem. Roy likely would have gotten crushed. I actually think Roy losing weight for this fight isn't going to help him... this isn't at 205 and Roy's cardio has never been much of a problem anyway except with his fight against Mir. It may shock some, but I can actually see Werdum taking this to the ground and tapping Roy. Still can't figure out why Werdum is constantly underrated after only losing to some of the best HW's in the world (Roy is not - his biggest win is Schaub).

  30. #30

I'm on Werdum here. Stylistically, I don't think this is a good fight for Roy. Werdum really pushes the pace and moves forward. Nelson excels when he is the one moving forward or if he's able to bully. The other thing that Nelson tends to do is cover up while ducking his head low. I see Werdum looking to grab the muay thai clinch here. I really don't see Nelson handling it well from a cardio standpoint either when Werdum pushes forward.

The one thing that scares me here for Werdum is that if he charges in looking to grab the muay thai clinch, he's susceptible to the overhand right that Nelson throws. Other than that, I see Werdum more likely to get a decision or wear Nelson out for a late (T)Ko or sub.

  31. #31

    I agree Oblivion.
I do not see Werdum being able to do what he wants in this fight. He wants the finish. I don't see him doing that. JDS couldn't finish Roy, so Werdum's chances are slim. I don't see Roy Nelson being submitted.

I see this fight going the distance. I believe Werdum has a good chance of taking the decision if he goes out there and puts it on Roy for 15 minutes... but I believe Roy has the better striking come Saturday night. Werdum's strongest and most likely method of victory is by Decision.

Werdum's been training with smaller guys this camp dude's that weight between 170-200 lbs. Getting comfortable sparring these small athletes that don't compare to Roy. Werdum's raw striking skills are not enough to stop Roy's attack. Roy can finish this.

Like I said in the first line of my Original Post. MAYBE Roy Nelson isn't 100%/Sick/Injured

    Overall thoughts.

    Werdum via Decision = 60%
Werdum inside the distance = 30%
    Nelson via Desicion = 40%
Nelson inside the distance = 70%

This is my big money fight. Should Nelson be an underdog? Of course... the name Werdum comes with alot of history and success and the name Big Country comes with a physique like Larry the Cable Guy. But something is telling me that we are going to see Werdum's ears wiggle again come ufc 143... Werdum leaves his head wide open when he throws a punch. This will not work when your facing a guy with a chin like Roy. Roy has no problem stepping into a punch to deliver his own. People have been talking about the length and size disadvantage he has in this fight but I honestly like it in this fight. His height allows him to step forward into Werdum and deliver his overhand sandwich. Werdum's chin is definitely NOT suspect but Roy knocks down everybody and I see now exception here. I expect Roy to knock Werdum down and pound him out in the 2nd.

Good luck to all of yall Saturday
