Default Ufc 91: Couture Vs Lesnar

The age-old question, who will win: Couture or Lesnar?
I've been thinking about this one ever since it was announced.

Lesnar - We know that he's a grizzly bear disguised as a human. We know that he can pack a punch (poor poor Herring). We know that he was brought into the UFC to boost ratings. He's good at wrestling, but he's got no ground game, and I doubt that he can even get his arm around someone's neck and secure a rear naked choke.

Couture - The Comeback king! Understand this: Randy comes from a great camp. His camp is smart and will help him put together a good strategy, suitable for controlling Lesnar. Randy Couture is a warrior - just look at some of the hits he took in the Gonzaga fight.
Unlike Lesnar, Couture has a wicked ground game, and a wealth of MMA experience.

Other things to consider
Does Lesnar have the gas to do five rounds? Lugging around that much muscle mass isn't easy. Yea, he didn't look gassed at the end of the Herring fight, but that's because Herring wasn't even fighting; Herring looked scared after he got punched in the face in R1.

When it all boils down, I think Couture is the smart pick, especially at such even odds.

If Lesnar wasn't so well known, he'd be a huge underdog in this fight: muscle-head with a neck thicker than most of our legs, practically no MMA experience, no ground game, ugly tattoo.

Couture should be at least at -150. If I were to guess how this fight would end, I'd say Couture by rear naked choke, by round 3.

Let's all keep our fingers crossed that Lesnar doesn't land a lucky haymaker and kill Couture.

I hate to disagree with you so vehemently but I think Randy is going to get mauled in this fight. Everyone of the usual advantages he has (strength, wrestling, clinch fighting/dirty boxing) is going to be a disadvantage for him. He definitely loses in speed, strength, and wrestling and while he's more skilled in the clinch, I can't see Randy choosing to let Lesnar grab his neck as they exchange short power punches.

Also, you wonder if Brock can go five rounds but the same question can be asked of Randy. Yes, he went five rounds with Sylvia but he's fighting a completely different style in this match. I think if anyone's going to begin to wear in the later rounds, it'll be Randy. He's going to have to deal with lugging Brock's weight on him every time they hit the mat.

When you speak of the “no ground game” that Brock possesses, I’m assuming that you mean submission game. But due to his wrestling credentials, his top game is excellent and there’s not much to fear in Randy’s submission game. Randy has great submission defense but limited submission offense. He’s not going to sweep Brock like Nog did to Sylvia nor is he going to be pulling off combo submission attempts like Mir did.

If Lesnar wasn’t so well known, he’d be a huge underdog that everyone would be betting on. He has freakish strength and speed along with being one of the top collegiate wrestlers ever to step into the cage. Lesnar doesn’t have the MMA credentials or experience that the Natural has but in this fight; size, speed, and strength will overcome fighting abilities.

Unless Randy jacks Lesnar in his untested chin and puts him down and then submits him, he’s in for a beat down. He won’t be able to stop Lesnar from taking him down (too fast and too strong) and once on his back, he’s not much of a threat. It’s only a matter of time before Randy gets overwhelmed by Brock (in a similar fashion that Ricco or Barnett overwhelmed him) and he gets pounded out, losing by TKO in the 2nd or 3rd round.

I will say this however, Randy does have a knack for the opposite and for proving me wrong (Gonzaga, Sylvia)...But I just don't think that's going to happen this time. Is his game plan really going to be to soften Lesnar up with strikes and then take HIM down? I think that's what he's going to try but Brock will power out of the take down and subsequently take Randy down. This will signal the begining of the end.

something tells me that couture is where it's at. he is so experienced and has one of the best teams...lesner hasn't even been doing mma for very long and hasn't been like steamrolling his opponents. People see the big muscles and assume his brute strength will crush everyone.

I'm not convinced that UFC didn't just put the end to Randy's career here. If those fists of Lesnar start to connect the 45yo Randy is all done. He can get seriously hurt in this fight. This fight ends via KO in 2nd or 3rd. Lesnar will absolutely destroy Couture. Randy has a fighters chance and that will be about it. Lesnar is "The Next Big Thing" in UFC just like when he was in the entertainment business. This is Dana's cash cow. Don't bet Randy, and if your gonna, please donate to the red cross or american cancer society as that is all you'll be doing by betting on Randy: Donating.

randy wouldn't be taking this fight if he thought his face was going to be smashed inward. randy is a smart guy and is pretty wiley.

Im not sold on Lesnar as the be-all-end-all of heavyweights in the UFC and hes certainly not HW champion material yet, but hes going to be the champ anyways come next saturday. Couture is 45, yes 45 and hasnt fought in over a year and a half. Now hes pitted against a heavier, stronger, bigger, and faster opponent whos weaknesses would appear to be striking, and Bjj. Fighting techniques that Randy only really has defensive skills in himself. Ill probably bet my money on Brock here, and hope he comes in as the Fav or close to against Big Nog, so I can bet every cent I have, and then some, against him in that fight. .

For those that say Coulture's going to win, who want to bet me? $1000+ on Brock Lesnar.

Well, why don't you tell me. For those who think Couture's going to win, you wouldn't mind if we straight bet (money line) evenly right? Whoever wants to bet against Brock should bet me.

just a small tip for whoever wants to bet on Couture... the money line odds have been improving over the past week reaching a high of +135 (bookmaker/betcris), and sitting on +120 (betcris) right now. I think it'll go up again to around +130 at least.

I'm not betting on this fight because I'm too indifferent about the outcome. When the fight was announced, I was favouring Couture to win hands down. But I may have underestimated Lesnar at the time.

If I were to bet on this fight I'd take Lesnar (-124)(pinnacle). Should be a fun fight to watch! ENJOY IT, and GL EVERYONE!!

Do you know how much power it takes to move 290lbs of muscle?
all he has to do is lay on you.
Before the fight he dehydrates himself down to 260. He drinks gallons and gallons of water to get him back up to 290.
Couture doesnt have the power that it requires to fight brock.

just for kicks, let's all try to call the fight!
Who wins?
What round?
and how?

Lesnar - R3 - TKO (ground and pound)

I'd say it stops earlier, but you gotta give Couture credit. I'm guessing round 3 is where Couture starts feeling the effects of old age and 290lbs of grizzly-strength.

Well damn, good prediction lol. I think it's only a matter of time before this fight hits the ground with Lesnar on top. First round might be a cautious one with Lesnar getting a late takedown at the end. But the second round, here comes the mauling. It won't surprise me if Randy survives the first mauling but for this games sake I'm going with:

Lesnar - R2 - TKO (ground and pound)

I think so. And I'm taking Nog. I hope he has a shitty performance against Mir so he opens as a dog against Brock. That'd be amazing.

I was sad that this fight ended the way it did, glad I arbed it though. I am a couture fan. I don't think Lesnar can take a "in-their-prime" submission fighter. This fight didn't prove a whole lot to me, other than Lesnar is a big dude.
