Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 7/29/08

Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

MARLINS +120: Perez has been lights out for the Mets lately, but he has been inconsistent his whole career and imploded when you least expect it, and he has had his difficulties with the Marlins recently. In fact, Perez has had two bad outings in his last three starts against the Fish. The last time he faced them, he was touched up for five earned runs and needed 100 pitches just to get through six innings. Also, as great as Perez has been since that start, he has run up some big pitch counts so it is just a matter of time until he wears down as he has routinely done in the past. Now Olsen has been erratic as well, but he has still shown marked improvement from previous seasons. He has done his best pitching here at home where he has a nice 3.12 ERA and 1.23 WHIP in 75 innings. In fact, Olsen has allowed three earned runs or less in each of his last five home starts.

Orioles +156 - Yanks overpriced for the win (No surprise there then) Baltimore more then capable of beating them with Cabrera on the mound.

957 St Louis Cardinals +112

Trying to claw North towards the leader and looking for good spots. St. Louis is watching Chicago/Milwaukee games out the corner of their eye while taking on a depleted Atlanta team. Chipper Jones and Tim Hudson went to the DL yesterday, and Brian McCann suffered a mild concussion and will probably be out until Wednesday. With that, Chipper Jones said ""Now it's awfully bleak because of the injury situation and the Trade Deadline coming up, and all of the [trade] rumors that are floating around. We're already pointing toward next year." Teixeira and Ohman are probably gone by Thursday...so the team isn't all there for sure. Campillo has pitched well but he's being shuffled around, while Wellemeyer hasn't been great, but we're talking about the hungry versus the turmoil type of scenario. Give me the Cards.

St Louis Cardinals +112, Braves seems to have waved the white flag, Tex is on the market and the run for the playoffs seems very distant for the Braves. Cards know that they can lead the Central by the end of the week if they keep their eyes on the prize. If I miss this I guess thezbar wins without having to play again. Let's go Cards. I am trying to take this thing out until the last day of the month.

Biggest chance for points on the board, Cabrera has also pitched well against the Yanks this season.

I'm also guessing the Marlins are 3-9 as favorites!

Have to like Cain here.
In his last 3 starts he has given up only 3 earned runs.

This Johnson guy is not so good.

there need to be a way that whoever post 1st in this type of situation among the top players that they can not duplicate going into the last week. I know it's not my business but to me that's a gay move by the leader but I understand why but still gay.

Giants are always tough on the Dodgers. I think Cain may be more then they can handle tonight.

If you want to get technical the TOP 2 duplicated the 3rd place chaser....just bush league across the board. I also put some thought into a write-up, and saying it's on TV I would say isn't a write-up at all.

Well, the easy solution would be for the second place guy to post as late as possible. As far it being a "gay" move, the leader earned the right to do it by putting himself in that position to start with.
