Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Sunday, 7/27/08

Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Florida Marlins +157
The Cubs offense is experiencing problems generating runs, the Marlins offense hasn't been much better but good enough for a 2-1 series lead coming into todays game. After watching yesterdays game its clear that the Cubs are going to have to start outscoring teams down the stretch, Harden can't be any better and still hasn't got a win, can Dempster keep his pace up?....questions with the closer role with Wood on the DL, and other bullpen problems that are starting to be exposed.

Cincinatti Reds +120

Banking on the notion that the Big Red Machine will avoid hosting a sweep against a 16-36 road team.

Good luck everybody!

ASTROS +145: I said all along that Jeff Suppan was not nearly as good as his early season gaudy numbers, and he is finally reverting to his normal level. Suppan has gone five consecutive starts without recording a Quality Start, and he has an 8.40 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in his last three outings. Randy Wolf is making his Houston debut, and he has had success vs. the Brewers, allowing three earned runs or less in five of his last six starts against them. Besides, the Brewers have one eye on their huge series with the Chicago Cubs coming up next.

969 Seattle Mariners +150

Another system anti-sweep angle. Washburn could possibly be pitching his last game for Seattle, and I firmly believe he wants to show how good he can be to the Yankees...because you know their watching. Seattle has all of their starters playing while Toronto leaves Wells and Stairs out today...got to take the chance. Washburn has surrendered two or fewer earned runs in seven of his last eight starts and won just two of them.

Bergmann isn't that bad of a pitcher. Kershaw has been struggling. The Nats are due bigtime.

Yanks +164, Hank must be pitching and George must be closing to get this kind of number on a hot team like the Yankees, or maybe it is a sucker bet. I'm in either way.

NY Yankees +164

Taking the hot team with the value in the Yankees. It really don't matter about pitching matchup when these 2 teams play but I do like the road teams.

Washington +136

Nats prefer lefties, and Bergmann is the better pitcher of the two despite his w/l record. Take the plus side here.

Florida

Cubs not hitting right now. Florida has confidence. Yes I can actually see them sweeping one of the best home teams in baseball today.

Thezbar, are you sitting it out tonight? You still have to make at least one more play to win.
