Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Saturday, 7/26/08

Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Florida Marlins +221
The Cubs have not provided Harden with much run support since coming to Chicago. He has also yet to record a win for the Cubs. I see a game a lot like yesterdays close until the end and the Marlins pulling it out.

Houston Astros +153

Banking on the notion that Friday night's loss to last place Astros was a classic look ahead to Brewers' upcoming series with Cubs and that the distraction might continue on in to today's matchup.

Good luck everybody!

BRAVES + 220

"Thanx" LT for opening the thread so early this AM.
Out the door now, so here goes nothing.

This is more of a "go against play", than anything else!
The Phillies have lost five (of) seven since the All Star break.
They managed only five measly hits yesterday, against the Braves.
Their losing ways continue this afternoon.
GL guys!

The M's hit lefties well. Purcey blows. Dickey is decent.

White Sox +140

In Verlander's last 5 starts against the Sox, his team has a record of 1-4. Even though he won the most recent meeting, the two previous turned out to be losses of 2-13 and 0-7. I have to take the +140 in this spot.

Marlins +210 : Going for 2 in a row in this series. Cubs bats are struggling and Harden is due for a bad start.

927 Chicago White Sox +140

Just an all around tough day for matchups. The CWS are the team I'm most comfortable taking today. Verlander is starting to pitch better, but he's 1-2 against the White Sox this season and 2-6 against them in his career. Danks got smoked by the Royals in his last outing, so maybe...just maybe, he throws a gem.

Texas +169, no one has raised the white flag faster or higher in the last 10-15 days than the A's. I'll take the highest scoring team in the AL versus "Moneyball" today. Plus they may trade their starting pitcher before the game.

Atlanta

Philly in a bit of a funk right now. Mike Hampton could shock people tonight and I am hoping that he can. Hamels is good, but no reason Atlanta cant beat him today.

atlanta + 230 Philly hasn't been playing all that great. Hampton's return may be short so the Bullpen could shut down Philly.

Texas +169

Looking at Hamilton and Bradley going against a righty and Texas puting up some runs against the A's top pitcher. The A's do not put enough runs to win this game.

Have to take the Cards here.
Mets pitcher being called up to take the place of Pedro.
He has not pitched since 2002.
I know the Cards have lost 5 in a row, but I think they are due.
