Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Thursday, 7/24/08

Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Florida Marlins +175
This is too good of a price to pass up as I need to gain some serious ground as the month is coming to an end. Hopefully Florida will bring their offense with them to Chicago, because they sure didn't have it against Atlanta this past series. Olsen went to high school in the Chicago area and pitches well @ Wrigley.

Marlins +175 Zambrano stuggled his last outing giving up 6 six, 4 runs and 6 BB's. Olsen has shown some decent #'s this year and faces a cubs team that doesn't hit lefties all that well, but this is the 3rd lefty in a row that the cubs will face.

Washington Nationals +130

Matt Cain at home is nothing special, Redding is the Nationals "win" machine.

San Francisco cannot hit anyone, and Cain can be gotten to.

This post is not for the contest.

Cardinals +117

Methinks the Brewers will maintain a slim lead until late in the game when their bullpen will surrender the game to the Cardinals. The Cardinals bullpen is no one's envy for sure, but on this occasion they'll just outperform the Brewers' bullpen.

Time is running out and I either go up and get in this race or just sit and obtain nothing. I'll choose the aggressive route and go down trying.

Florida Marlins +185

Marlins are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Chicago.
Marlins are 5-1 in their last 6 road games vs. a right-handed starter.

Ben Sheets is due for a loss. Wellemeyer could get his act together.

Washington +130

Two terrible teams with two decent pitchers on the hill..........which leads to taking the plus money on the Nats.

Cardinals +117, if the Brewers sweep the Cards, then there is no doubt who the best team in the Central is. The Cards will be playing very hard tonight.

St Louis

I just can not see Milwaukee winning all three games in St. Louis. Cards need this win bad and Sheets does not have too solid a winning percentage against the Cards in his career. Lets hope Wellermeyer can rebound from the last performances he has had.

910 St Louis Cardinals +117

I absolutely have no confidence in this pick at all as every look over the past few days has been wrong. This is strictly an anti-sweep system play. Sheets is the better pitcher, but SL needs the win.

Have to take the Cards at home to avoid the sweep.

Cards need this one real bad.

Marlins play better on the road. Cubs struggle on first game back from trip.

Going with the better match up against each other this season. Florida seem to win games against the better pitchers and with the + value this is the play
