Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Wednesday, 7/23/08

Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Cleveland Indians +152
Not only do I feel that Laffey will record his 1st road win of the season today, but the Indians will steal the series. After 10 straight losses, trading their Ace, all but on the '08 season, the Indians are playing their best baseball of the season winning 7 of the last 9. With the line as low as LAA-150 at some places, if I took the series price @ LAA-250 I would be a little worried.

Pittsburgh

Ian Snell has had good success against Houston recently. Moehler has pitched well at home but I am not sold on him being this big of a favorite over a young Pirates squad.

Minnesota +145

These 2 pitchers faced off on May 30th in Minnesota with the Yanks winning a squeaker 6-5. Looking for the Twins to turn that around today and avoid being swept.

BoSox +121, Sox are bad, but not lose to Seattle on the road bad.

hope san diego can score some runs for mattox today, as he has allowed 3 earned runs or less in 7 of last 10 but has not had any run support.

962 St Louis Cardinals +131

St. Louis has bit it in two consecutive games and this is plainly a SL not wanting to go down 3 straight in a 4 game series. CC has been the goods and Looper has been smacked around by Milwaukee in his last outing. All numbers point to Milwaukee, all the more reason to go with SL.

I will take the Indians because I missed most of the games today and need to make a pick. I am hoping Laffey can pitch well and win a pirtchers dual here.

Looper seems to run hot and cold and we'll bank on it being a warm start for him tonight!

Philadelphia Phillies +122

Myers and Maine are both almost equally bad this year, but Myers is 5-1 with a 4.83 ERA in nine career starts at Shea. Maine is 0-2 with a 6.63 ERA in his last four starts, and hasn’t lasted into the sixth in three of those games.

Phillies will be fired up tonight after beating Mets last night in the 9th inning. Maine is struggling and Myers plays well against Mets.

Taking the Cardinals against the Right hander Sabathia who pitched very well his last outing but St Louis are loaded with bats and should outscore the Brewers in a low scoring game.

The word is Myers solved his problems in the minors.

Don't care for Maine.

I think the Phils will come out really confident after last night's debacle.

I'm surprised that Giants favourite with Correia pitching. He is not Barry Zito. Correia is bad and will be amazed if he will survive 5 ininnings tonight against Nationals offence.
