Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Sunday, 7/20/08

Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Kansas City Royals +160
The White Sox didn't look good at all yesterday losing 1-9, I'm betting that a mini-slump is in the near future for this team....starting with Kansas City stealing the series in todays game. The way the Royals have been hitting 7 runs should be attainable and enough to get the win.

Thumbs up

A's +130

Gotta go with my home town boys in this one.
After losing the two previous games to the Yankees (7-1/4-3), Oakland will win this one behind ol' Duchscherer.
Then it's back on the road tomorrow for the A's, heading down to Tampa.
Good Luck everyone!

Rangers +119
Padilla has good numbers against the Twins. Baker struggles against the Rangers. The Rangers usually put up big numbers after being shut down the previous day.

Milwaukee Brewers +121

Giants not scoring much; Brewers in a division-lead bunch-up could really use a road sweep.

Good luck everybody!

Washington Nationals

Braves have trouble against Nats. I am not a big fan of JoJo Reyes. No escobar for Atlanta who has not been hitting very well and will miss him sorely today. Nats pull out the series win against the disappointing Braves today.

Washington Nationals +

Going against The Braves Reyes who has not performed well lately. The Braves are not a good hitting team against lefties and The Nationals are playing at their best right now.

DODGERS +127: Lowe is coming off of a gem vs. the Braves where he allowed one run on only two hits in 7.1 innings of a 2-1 victory. That gives him a 2.75 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in his last three starts and eight Quality Starts in his last 10 outings. He has also allowed one earned run or less in five of his last six starts vs. Arizona including one start this year, and he is not exactly facing a scorching Diamondbacks lineup in this spot. Now Webb is 13-4 with a 3.37 ERA overall, but he has not seemed like himself lately. In fact, he has just three Quality Starts in his last seven starts, with the D-Backs as a team going 3-4 in those games. Perhaps most discouraging is his uncharacteristic 1.37 WHIP over his last three starts. Finally, the Dodgers clearly have the superior bullpen here, giving them even more value at this price.

Dodgers,

Lowe has been good this past few starts, and has good career numbers against Arizona, should be a close game, and will take the dog.

Line looks to be off..... Zach Duke has been pretty solid and that appears to be a great value. I think the Pirates win today.

921 Toronto Blue Jays +144

If I didn't have real money on the Yankees, I'd be picking Oakland today for the contest. Toronto is 11-3 when playing on Sundays this season which points to the fact that a higher power is involved in this outcome. I'm siding with Jesus...Good Luck!

Even with Lincecum on the mound the difference in these 2 lineups doesn't allow me to wrap my brain around the Brew Crew being a dog.
