Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Sunday, 7/13/08

Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Baltimore Orioles +185
Cabrera is 1-0 in 3 starts vs the Red Sox this year. If he is able to keep his walks down and command his fastball, I look for him to give his team a chance to win and hopefully the bullpen will be solid enough for the win.

INDIANS +137: The Rays have lost six straight games overall, and even with their ace Kazmir on the hill, it just seems too risky to lay these odds with them right now. It could very well be that the Yankees broke their spirit a bit by sweeping that big series earlier this week, and that the Rays will need the All-Star break to regroup. Besides, Tampa Bay is still just 19-24 on the road. The Indians needed to come home to snap an 11-game losing streak, but they are 25-22 in this stadium as opposed to 15-31 on the road. Nice price on this home dog.

REDS + 210

Staying with my philosphy of taking the biggest number on the board, to get back into this thing.

Reds are going for a rare road sweep of the Brew Crew.
They have won seven of their last nine games.

The Brewers are only 2-4, since acquiring CC (no dots now in his name) Sabathia.

GL everyone!

Cincinnati Reds +210

I always fade "Cici's Pizza" Sabathia on Sundays because he always eats lots of dough on Saturday nights and the possibility of having heartburn and a bloaded colon during game time in the afternoon is high.

The Reds bats are on fire and Griffey is a Hall of Famer.

Florida +142, Andrew Jones is back taking up space, plus the Marlins play fast and with a purpose.

Minnesota +137

The last time Minnesota swept the Tigers it was 2004 and it was also a 4 game set. Verlander has been very disappointing at times this year even though he has been hot as of late. The Twins are the hottest team in baseball and I will take them at this nice price.

Watched Silva pitch against my A's the other night other night and was impressed.

Silva retired the 20 of the last 23 in that game.

Mike Pelfrey has 6.23 ERA and 1.96 WHIP vs Rockies....... I think he gets rattled trying to keep the Mets win streak going, thus I'll be backing the Rockies in this one.

Reds are looking for the sweep today. CC didn't pitch all that well in his debut, allowing 3 runs and 5 BB's but now he faces a hotter hitting team that is decent against LHP.

Dice-K has a horrible career record against Baltimore and will get hit hard, while Cabrera has faired better this year than in the past.

Sun 7/13 919 Minnesota Twins +137

Nick Blackburn (7-4 ERA 3.72) is set to toe the rubber against Detroit's Justin Verlander (6-9 ERA 4.24). This looks like an even pitching match-up and the difference will be Minnesota's offense which has been hot as of late.

Going against Sabathia and the Brewers in this matchup. The Reds are hitting the ball hard witn Dunn getting 2 homers yesteday. The Value shouldn't be this high with a good hitting team like the Reds

If you believe that KC can sweep Seattle than you're wrong. Silva is much better than Davies. Hence, I believe Mariners should be favourites.

CC didn't look all that great in his only start against the Brewers and the Reds have an offense that can throw up a crooked number on the board pretty easily so I'll ride the Reds and see if they can rattle CC a little bit.

Not a big fan of either team, but when a team takes one on the chin like Seattle did last night I normally play them in the pissed off factor type of angle.
