Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Saturday, 7/12/08

Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Colorado +130, Jimenez has been pitching better lately and finnally the rocks are heating up a bit. Pedro isn't the same and I feel that these rockies will have success today against him.

As the pacers hit the half mile pole its the Z-bar in front by one and a half. The half timed off in 58 and 3. Come and catch me.

Seattle Mariners+122
Jarrod Washburn is 6-1 in 9 career starts w/ a 2.43ERA @ Kansas City. The probability of Ichiro repeating an 0-4 performance is as probable as Jose Guillen playing. And now that Seattle finally cut ties with the Automatic Out aka Richie Sexson I look for them to start to establish an offensive rhythm.

GIANTS + 225

Looking for my boys to end their current 5 game skid this AM.
Yesterday, they looked great until the bottom of the 8'th, when their bullpen failed them again, this time giving up a 3 run shot to win it for the Cubs.
On the flip side,
ChiTown is only 5-3 (the last 3 seasons) @ home against the GMen.
Unfortunately starting S.F. RF Winn, fouled a ball off his right knee yesterday and is now, day to day.
But then again, aren't we all?
GL everybody!

953 Colorado Rockies +123. My money is on Jimenez who has been hot over his last three starts. Pedro is still shaky after the rehab and the Mets are due for a loss...Good Luck

Giants have been pretty steady of late, and won me quite a few bucks. I don't see why they can't win here, especially at those odds

Cubs are 2-6 in their last 8 games following a win.... Harden may be rattled playing his 1st game at home in Wrigley... It's a whole different environment to playing in Oakland where there's no pressure at all

P. Martinez had a very good outing the last time out for the Mets however Colorado has been hitting the ball very hard lately and I see them winning in a high scoring game against the Mets and Pedro

ROCKIES +123 Pedro pitched probably his best game of the season last start, but it is easier to picth with a 10-0 lead like he had. Jimenez has been great for the Rockies lately, as he tossed seven shutout innings while allowing three hits at Milwaukee last time out, and he has a 2.60 ERA in his last three starts.

I'm hoping the Nats can keep the little roll they're on going, they do play Houston well and it is Balester's 1st home start, so hopefully his teammates will muster up some run support for him. If Oswalt's left hip does let him play, he may not be 100%.

Good luck everybody!

In Ubaldos last 2 starts he has given up 1 run and 0 runs and has gone into the 7th in both starts. Also in his only start against the Mets this year he went 8 innings and gave up only 1 run.

Take Jimenez versus Martinez. Mets won 8 games in a row and Martinez ERA in last 3 games 7.31. All signs indicates METS lose.
