Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Friday, 7/11/08

Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Reyes is better on the road than he is at home. Peavy struggles against Atl.

BRAVES+134: Now Peavy is still one of the best pitchers in the game, but it is difficult to to lay these kinds of odds with a Padres team that has trouble scoring runs and is 1-10 in the last 11 home games. The Pads are batting just .221 vs. left-handed pitching at home this year, and Atanta southpaw Reyes has a nice 2.52 ERA and 1.12 WHIP in five road starts, and he has not allowed more than two runs in any of his last four road outings. Also, the Braves are 8-1 in the last nine head-to-head.

Fogg is 7-4 with a 3.64 ERA in his career against Brewers. Brewers capitulated on Parra's last start.

I'm not the biggest Kyle Kendrick fan, so this is more a fade of him. I like the D'backs batting outfit too.

I'm hoping the Twins can re-group after being swept and pounded by Sox to take it out on the Motor City Bengals.

Good luck everybody!

This is more of a play against the Bosox than anything. The Sox are going to lose a couple more at home and this could be a good spot. Buckholtz (Boston starter) does not deserve to be almost a 2-1 favorite. On the season he has 42 1/3 innings with an era of 5.53 and in his last 3 starts he has logged 13 2/3 innings with an era of 8.56.

Burres (Baltimore starter) on the other hand has been pitching well of late. In his last 3 starts he has 16 1/3 innings with an era of 3.86.

Nationals plus 122. Oswalt had been pitching well, but missed last 2 starts with injury. Redding has been consistent, and figures to keep the Nationals in the game even if Oswalt is effective.

Like the Reds. Parra doesn't seem good enough to warrant price. I can't believe I lost that Indians game 2 days ago.

Colorado +117

Both these teams come into this game playing some of their best baseball all year. The Rockies 7-3 in their last 10 and the Mets 8-2 and riding a 6 game winning streak. I only made this choice off the fact that Perez in his last 2 starts facing Colorado, got hit pretty good and the Mets lost both those games. While Cook in his last 3 starts against New York was real tough in 2 of them, the Rockies going 2-1 in those games.

Only way for me to get back into this thing, is to take the biggest number on the board daily.

So today, it's Baltimore.
After last night's BP disaster, (and) getting swept by Toronto, let's hope they turn it around there in Beantown, this afternoon!

GL everyone!

I am going with the Marlins again after picking them last night. I think they will get to the Dodgers rookie pitcher early and often. I am taking what I think is the better team here.

Probably due to Boston having so a great home record but really no advantage in this game other than that, and I need to make up some ground with a big dog

Oliver Perez is a very straeky pitcher. You never know what pitcher is going to show up that night. Cook has been consistant the first half of the season for Colorado. The Mets have to lose sometime before the break, lets hope its tonight.
