Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Wednesday, 7/02/08

Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

If you have not participated in contests sponsored by 5 Dimes in the past, the deadline for submitting your 5 Dimes account number is 6:00pm ET on Thursday, July 3. The deadline for entering plays in the contest and still being eligible for prizes is Saturday, July 12.

Phillies +124
Adam Eaton is better than people think. The Phils have been heating up lately and Jorge Campillo is overrated.

Oakland A's +123 Mr. Eveland is very underated and Saunders is extremely overrated. I see the A's having one or two explosive innings and Eveland pitches his way out of trouble on more then one occassion.

San Francisco Giants +128

I like the Giants here. Ryan Dempster threw an awful game last time out, and his confidence is gonna be shaken. Cubs are 17-24 on the road, and I think San Francisco will hit em off the park.

Boston +132

In 3 of Kazmir's last 4 starts against Boston, the Bucs walked out loserss (3-7), (1-8) and (0-6), his only win a (2-1) victory over Schilling. Matsusaka, while only starting twice against Tampa, they resulted in a split, but at least both games were very competitive. Looking for Boston to avoid being swept in this 3 game series.

Giants +128 Dempster belongs in the dumpster, he is absolutely terrible. Giants win this game at home. Please let me know which of the picks will be the graded one before the action stars.

Phillies +122 : Hate to go against the Braves starter here as he has been solid , but the Braves seem to be in too much of a slump. They came out earlier this week and said this series could be make or break for them. Too much pressure for them so the Phils are my pick.

Texas +163 Texas is 7 and 3 last 10 yankees are 4 and 6. One has won the last 3 the other lost the last 3. Strictly a value play here.

ATHLETICS +121: Eveland continues to hold his fine form, as he has run off four straight Quality Starts while allowing two runs or less in each of those starts. This drops his ERA for the entire season to an excellent 3.34, and he now looks to be in a position to get some revenge after a poor start in Anaheim back in April. Saunders has 11 wins and a 3.06 ERA overall, but he did not exactly fool the Dodgers in a 6-0 loss last Friday and he may be ready to come back to the pack a bit after pitching over his head so far.

strictlywinners,

Read the rules. Games will be graded on the lines that I post even if you post early, and once you post a valid play, it cannot be changed. Thus, you official play is Oakland +121.

GIANTS + 128

Going with my home town boys in tonight's battle of righties.
I'll take ol' Correia over Dempster any day.
Or in this case, night.
Just give me 5 quality innings Correia.

Oakland Athletics +121 - Both offenses are struggling but I like Eveland and he'll get the run support he needs in this one against Saunders.

Nothing has changed since last time these two met with the same pitchers so a Philly win seems inevitable. Braves keep slumping and Phillies getting better.
