Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 7/01/08

Starting Tuesday (July 1), we will start a new July Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $100 account at 5 Dimes, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 5 Dimes account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at 5 Dimes prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their 5 Dimes account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

If you have not participated in contests sponsored by 5 Dimes in the past, the deadline for submitting your 5 Dimes account number is 6:00pm ET on Thursday, July 3. The deadline for entering plays in the contest and still being eligible for prizes is Saturday, July 12.

Milwaukee +120

Brewers are 9-3 in their last 12 meetings with the Diamondbacks. They also just beat Randy Johnson on June 3rd 7-1. I can't pass those 2 stats up.

Rangers +190. I love fading the yankees so lets start of right here. The yankees offensive wows are continuing and I don't see them breaking out of this slump. Take the rangers as a huge value play.

Indians +113
Cliff Lee has been solid this year, 11-1 record. Although Danks has been solid as well, the White Sox do not hit lefties well. Their offense is not nearly as good without Konerko in the lineup.

Kansas City Royals +117

I like Kansas City here. They've won 6 on the bounce away from home. They;ve got that never say die attitude and I don't like Baltimore at all.

Padres +146

Cook is good, but banks has been solid as well. SD finally won last night, and they actually hit the ball. Couple that with Colorado's inability to win against anyone lately and I'll take my chances with the Padres at this price.

What so is it just a choice of the picks you just posted, or does my kansas city +117 still count, as its above +110?

Pirates +168 : I am looking for another clunker today from the Reds ace. He was hit hard last time out and the biggest suprise was no strike outs.

woodg8,

Royals were only +109 at 5 Dimes at the time I posted lines, which is why they are not eligible.

Fair enough, I'll change it to

Tue 7/1 925 Detroit Tigers +119

Tigers are on a roll right now. They beat Minnesota yesterday and I don't see why they can't do it again today.

Padres +148 vs. the Rockies

Banks has pitched well against the National League and Colorado hasn't seen him yet. I get +148 against a team that has lost 8 straight.

Seattle +119

I don't really like this selection, with Toronto beating Seattle 7 out of their last 10 meetings, but since 2 out of the 3 games Seattle did win were started By Litsch, maybe the Mariners have a mojo on him.

I will take the team that has won 6 in a row as dog. Not a fan of Roberston but I think the Tigers get to Baker and hit him hard.

Good value here for the Rangers. Hopefully Millwood can hold the Yanks under 4 or 5 runs.

Indians +117 is the play for me as well. I liked the Indians to start because I felt that it was great value to get Lee as a dawg, then I saw the line moving in favor of the Whitesox so I jumped all over the Indians Bandwagon. Look for this line to come down alot once everyone gets there late night action in on the Indians.

NY Mets +127

Wellemeyer rarely goes past 6 even during his best performances, and i'm more than happy to take a shot at the Cards bullpen at plus money.

METS+127: I think Wellemeyer has pitched over his head this year and some regression is in order. Besides, this is his second start back after missing some time with an elbow injury, making him a prime candidate for muscle soreness (second start back after an arm injury is usually the toughest). Armas is making his Mets debut, but he was a perfect two for two in Quality Starts vs. the Cards last year, allowing just three runs and nine hits in 12.1 innings.

Millwood won his last start at Yankee Stadium on May 15, 2006. Chamberlain has only 1 win as as starter. Good enough for me.

930 Seattle Mariners +119

Like the home team here to scratch out a win after losing to Roy Halladay last night. They could not hit Halladay but should be able to hit Litsch who they beat twice in the past. Litsch got hit for 2 runs and 10 hits in 6 innings last time against Seattle. When you get that many hits they should hopefully be able to score more than 2 runs tonight.
