Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Saturday, 6/28/08

Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

It seems that Nostradamus and Pavyracer have a game of "Can You Top This?" going on! Nostradamus was forced out of "retirement" yesterday by Pavyracer's late charge, and he responded with a +129 winner on Seattle. Undaunted, Pavyracer stayed alive with the Mets +140 in Game 1! It will be a fun last three days for this contest.

GIANTS (+) 119

With ol' Lincecum starting tonight, this is my best chance for my home town boys to knock off the A's in this weekend series in OakTown.

Current contest trends for July:

GN: SAT 3-0

BN: SUN 0-3

Oh yea, in case you missed it.

In yesterday's S.F. Chronicle (local newspaper), the A's ran a 1/2 page ad.
Which featured the ever present slogan of "Battle of the Bay".
However in this case guys, the word "Battle" was crossed out.
The ad also included the phrase: "Well, when you've won 8 of the last 9, it's not exactly a battle".
Hmm...

Seattle +120

Had to take this team again today. San Diego looks lifeless at the plate, pitching is suspect and the Mariners are hungry. To go along with that in 17 interleague meeting between these 2 teams Seattle owns them with a record of 13-4.

I thought I was alone in giving the Mariners the edge in this one. I said yesterday and maintain that you don't need more than 3 runs to beat this Padres team. Moreover, following the change in management, the Mariners are on a different level now.

Texas +120

Rangers in Padilla's starts are 13-3 and I expect him to be pumped up today to beat the team that dumped him. Phillies Hamels is 2-3 in his last 5 starts and 2-5 against AL with 5.70 ERA. Phillies have lost 8 of their last 9 games and have been swept by AL West rivals Angels earlier this week.

Also you Don't Mess with Texas on Saturday nights in Arlington!
