Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Wednesday, 6/25/08

Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Texas +135

Astros are 6-14 in their last 20 games, definitely a team that is struggling. To make it tougher Texas has beaten Oswalt the last 3 times they have faced him. I think this is a good spot for the Rangers

Pittsburgh +165

Pittsburgh is hitting lights out and with Duke on the mound they won't let Yankees score many runs. Duke doesn't lose at home and the Yankees are not scoring runs against NL teams. Yankees team is on a slump whereas Pirates are flying high.

This is about the best thing I've read today. I predicted a Pirates win yesterday and was almost slain(!) by some folks. The record of yesterdays games is there for anyone to see. The Pirates, just like the Giants, will win again today.

GIANTS +160: Now it may seem tough to take Zito in this spot, but consider that he has actually allowed three runs or less in each of his last four road starts, with the Giants as a team going 3-1 in those outings. Apparently, Zito is more relieved to be pitching away from home these days, as he has been abysmal at San Francisco where he has been booed mercilessly. It also helps his cause here that the Indians are batting a pathetic .186 vs. left-handed pitching in the last 10 games. Besides, Sowers has not exactly been lights out for Cleveland, going 0-2 with a 6.57 ERA and a hideous 1.74 WHIP. He cannot be trusted laying this much juice.

I can't believe I'm saying this but I'll take the Bucs as well, +165. When they get on a tear its a serious and the Tanks are just lame (did I mention I'm a Sox fan?)

Wed 6/25 911 New York Yankees
7:05PM (EST) 912 Pittsburgh Pirates +164

Duke was brilliant in his last start against the Blue Jays. He was efficient in every facet of the game, throwing 64 of his 97 pitches for strikes. He went a solid seven innings and allowed no runs on six hits. Duke continues to be the Pirates' most consistent starter throughout the 2008 season and looks to continue his streak against the Yankees, who he has never faced in his career.

Duke at home this season record 4-2.

Joba, 0-1 away this season.

Mets are slumping, shouldn't be favored by this much against anyone.

GIANTS + 160

Gotta go with my home town boys here.
After tonight's win, the Giant's road record for wins,
will match that of Cleveland's home record for wins.
Come on Zito, all we need is 5 quality innings!

Mariners +200. Two teams going in opposite directions. M's swinging the bats well -- Mets just suck. New York has lost Maine's last three starts at Shea as he's posted a 6.23 ERA.

Twins or Phillies left on the dog board . . . gonna go with the Bullies.

Kendricks usually draws run support from his club.

Good luck everybody!
