Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Saturday, 6/21/08

Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-leaders lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

CARDS + 200

Gotta make up for last night's miscue.
I see that Boggs is pitchin' for the Red Birds today.
Hope he's better than his cousin Wade.

Oh yea,
"Thanx" LT, for opening today's thread so early!
On an early morning mission.

Have to go with this team again. I think this game should be no more then a pick. Phils just can't seem to beat the better teams.

#908 LAD +123 : Sabathia is overrated, and Chan Ho is about as unpredictable as ever, both teams suck at daytime games, but i'll take my chances on the home doggie with the better pen, plus LAD hits lefties decent.

DODGERS +123: Sabathia has straightened himself out a bit, but his last two road starts leave much to be desired, as he allowed a total of nine runs and 20 baserunners in 14 innings. He is facing a Dodgers lineup that is hitting significantly better vs. left-handers (.280) than vs. right-handers (.257) this season. Park is taking this spot start for the Dodgers after pitching out of the bullpen all season, save for his one other start when he went just four innings. However, he has been effective when called upon, and limiting his innings today may not be a bad thing considering that the Dodgers rank fourth in the majors in bullpen ERA at 3.07.

I'm happy to find myself on the same side with you on this. The Phillies offense's lukewarmness will persist for a while. In fact, the Angels today seem to me the favorites rather than the underdogs.

I was tempted to tail your Friday's Orioles pick but let it pass. I won't let this one pass. I'm tailing this one without hesitation.

Have to go with the home team here. Cleveland has a terrible road record in day games. (Something like 1-10)

Well with the Angels scratched, I guess I will have to take Pedro. Mets handled them last night and may be getting hot.

Matsuzaka is only going to pitch about 80 pitches today. The Cards have been hot vs winning teams too.

Cards +230. Unlikely Cards will win two in a row from Bosox, but I have a lot of ground to make up and I like the value here. Mitchell Boggs (1-0, 5.56) makes his third career start. He allowed two runs and four hits in five innings of a 7-2 win over Cincinnati on June 10 for his first career victory. Look for him to get shelled today.

Sat 6/21 901 New York Mets +113
8:05PM (EST) 902 Colorado Rockies

Pedro Martinez. In the second game of Sunday's doubleheader, in his third start since coming off the disabled list, Martinez went six innings and allowed only two runs to the hot-hitting Rangers. He also did it on six-days rest, and if the rotation stays as is, Martinez will have five off-days before setting foot on the mound at Colorado.

Ubaldo Jimenez, this season 1-7, at home 1-2.

Mr Gabbard has almost a 10 ERA in his last 3 starts. Mr Mock will show a better showing than his first start against the Giants.

I hope Marlins keep some momentum from last night where they had 15 hits. Nolasco should keep them in the game.

Going with The Mariners with a better hitting club against the Righties. Also the Braves are best going against righties also but will face Washburn coming from the left hand side.

After winning two days in a row,
I think I finally figured this thing out.
It's my lame posts.
The lamer they are,
The more they win!
I.E.: Just look @ the runner-up from last month, RE: his posts.
Go figure...
