Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Thursday, 6/12/08

Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Minnesota Twins +175

Hopefully a return to the scene of the '97 World Series will see Hernandez back to form here. Laffey didn't pitch well vs. Twins in '07 and hasn't faced them yet this year. Gonna take a shot here with a big dog.

Good luck everybody!

You're not taking a shot. You're doing the right thing. The Twins will win.

Those Incredible Nats + (if applicable), if not Dbacks +.

No particular reason except the public seem to be on the Burgh like they are the 27 Yanks.

Just playing the go against sub .500 team favorite angle.

#953 Ari +146 : I'm still convinced the Metropolitans can't hit righties, the D'Backs are the better team IMO.

Haren at +147? I don't care if Sandy Koufax is on the mound for the Mets in peak form, Az +147 is the play, book it.

DODGERS +127: Peavy is one of the best pitchers in baseball, but he may be rusty here making his first start after spending nearly a month on the Disabled List. Meanwhile, Kuroda has five Quality Starts in his last six outings while allowing two runs or less in four of them, and he allowed only one run and three hits in seven innings in his first start vs. San Diego this year. This looks like decent value vs. a team that can’t score.

Livan is a good pitcher who is very undervalued here.

After last night's meltdown by the Royals I expect the Rangers bats to carry on the nice hitting for the sweep.

The Rangers knocked Bannister around the last time he faced them, I have to go with the hotter team in this spot.

We might as well go for the UNDER here. This will go under 7 again.

Thu 6/12 971 Minnesota Twins +167
7:05PM (EST) 972 Cleveland Indians

Livan Hernandez will be to face the only team in the Majors he's never pitched against, the Indians.

Laffey went 0-1 with a 7.71 ERA in two starts against the Twins last year.

Every time I bet against Livan, I get beat. If you can't beat em, join em. The value is too good on this game.

Piniero returns off the DL to face a weak hitting reds team. Cards swinging the sticks well also. I am a better capper than any of you phucks on here. I will show you all.

Cards +126. Everyone's picking up the pace now that Pujols is out. Cardinals have won 10 of their last 13, and looking to sweep the Reds.

Cardinals are 4-1 in their last 5 vs. a team with a losing record.
Reds are 1-4 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record.
