Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Sunday, 6/08/08

Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

The deadline for entering plays in the contest and still being eligible for prizes is Wednesday, June 11.

Cards +115. Kyle Lohse (6-2, 3.87 ERA) goes for his fourth straight win. St. Louis goes for its eighth win in 12 meetings against the Astros this season. Lohse is 2-0 and 1.50 ERA versus Houston in 2008.
Astros' Wandy Rodriguez (2-1, 2.38) is 0-1 with a 2.25 ERA in two starts versus St. Louis in 2008 and 1-5 with a 5.09 ERA in seven career starts against the Cardinals.

Baltimore Orioles +

Halladay pitches well versus the O's, but the other birds have some momentum coming off one of their better offensive showings of the season and I'm hoping some of that rolls over to today's play.

Baltimore Orioles +

Baltimore has played good baseball lately and over .500 for the year. R Liz will pitch today against Toronto who had a bad outing yesterday. Halladay will keep this game low scoring but going with Baltimore with the better value.

KC. Greinke has had some rough starts lately but overall still has nice #'s on the year. Jaba still won't be good for more then 4 innings, leaving it to the Stanks pigpen, and the big tag just makes it that much sweeter. KC +170 is the play, book it.

Angels +135
Santana is 7-1 with a 1.38 ERA versus the A's. He's also 3-0 with a 1.57 ERA when playing in McAfee Coliseum. The Angels are also the better team in every category except bullpen.

PHILLIES +123: Eaton is pitching his best ball of the season right now with three consecutive Quality Starts, and he allowed exactly one run in each of his last two outings. In fact, is WHIP for the season of 1.35 seems to be low for someone with a 4.63 ERA, and Eaton’s current form is an indication that the ERA is starting to get in line with his WHIP, which is also a good sign. Also, do not forget that the Phillies lead the Major Leagues with a 2.63 bullpen ERA, and it is the pens that have decided the first two games of this series. Campillo pitched brilliantly in his first three starts, but the league may be catching up to him as he allowed four earned runs and seven baserunners in only four innings in his last start. In fact, since going six innings in his first start of the year, Campillo has failed to go more than five innings in any of his last three outings. That is bad news for a crumbling Atlanta bullpen that blew a save in the ninth inning of a 10-inning loss on Friday and that turned a 2-2 game into a 6-2 loss in the last two innings last night.

Suppan (Milw starter) is pitching well. He carries an era for the season of 3.93 which is 1.6 runs lower than his starting opponent. In his last 3 starts he is even better. 20 2/3 innings; 1.74 era. In his career against the Rocks he has 5 wins against 1 loss with an era of 3.58 in 8 games.

I can't pass up +133, when Santana has been rock solid vs. Oakland. His last 3 games vs them: 19.3 innnings -0 earned runs. Lifetime vs. Oakland 8-1, 1.27.

this home doggie strategy ain't workin', but i'm going to keep trying it.

#964 SD +135 : lets shoot for 4-4 on the year for a 2-1 Pads win. Pedro might have looked decent against the Giants on his first game back, but the Pads are pitching great as of late, and the BP has stepped it up.

Santana is fantastic against a struggling A's team that just cant hit. The Angels are streaking for 8 straight and I feel they will close out a sweep with this opportunity.

ANGELS + 133

Going against my home town boys here, as the Angels look to sweep this road series, having won the previous two games by the respective score of 3-1 (and) 5-3.
Even though the A's have one of the best home records in the AL, they failed miserably in this series to make up any ground against the 1'st place Halos.

Get out the brooms...
