Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Friday, 6/06/08

Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

The deadline for entering plays in the contest and still being eligible for prizes is Wednesday, June 11.

ORIOLES +158: Too much value to pass up here. Yes, Burres has been plagued by the home run ball in his last two starts, but he did allow three earned runs or less in six of his previous seven outings, and he also tossed seven scoreless innings the last time he pitched in Toronto. Also, Baltimore always has a quality bullpen to fall back on, as they rank third in the American League with a 3.18 ERA. Now I like Marcum a lot, but even I admit he has pitched a bit over his head to this point, with a fantastic 0.94 WHIP in 78.2 innings. Marcum does not blow people away and he often pitches to contact, and while he has been vintage Maddux-like in keeping the ball off of the fat part of the bat, is he really this good or is a correction in order? Besides, the Jays may be a bit fragile after that devastating loss to the Yankees yesterday.

Rangers are scoring runs for fun at the moment. Ok today they face Kazmir but Rays have hit a mini slump at the moment & I feel at these odds Texas are good value.

Plain and simple Nick Blackburn. He has been holding that staff together since the year started and will give them a win today.

#952 Pitt +147 : I got to go with the team who his on the upswing. I'll take a home dog who's hitting better and bullpen is doing better as of late, vs. a team who can't hit and bullpen is falling apart. Throw in that Pitt has came away with a victory at home against the D'Backs the L3 times Snell has pitched at home.

Damn i thought i was going to be the first one to set sail with the mariners tonight. But i think king felix comes out and repeats his performance at fenway that he had last year. I think the mariners can answer their Managers tirade for at least a game.

Great pitcher + slumping team on the road vs not-so-great pitching with hot hitting team; hopefully the longhorns rack up more runs than they let accross. Good luck everybody!

Depleted/suspended sox squad coming off an emotional sweep while the M's are falling apart. A good road stand here against a weakened sox squad is just what they need.

Phillies +137. Philadelphia (36-26) has won nine of 11, taking a 2 1/2-game division lead over second-place Florida and a 3 1/2-game lead over third-place Atlanta (32-29). My boy Chipper was 4 for 5 last night and hit is 400th homer. He will probably hit .500 tonight, but he doesn't have much support.
