Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 6/03/08

Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

If you have not participated in contests sponsored by DSI in the past, the deadline for submitting your DSI account number is 6:00pm ET on Tuesday, June 3. The deadline for entering plays in the contest and still being eligible for prizes is Wednesday, June 11.

Doubt this one will hold, if it doesn't I have another one up my sleeve....
Ana +110 at Seattle is the play. We get Cy Young candidate Saunders as a dog vs a very mediocre Bedard. We get an Angels team with a much better road record then Sea's home record. What's not to love. Book it.
Like I said the line will probably slip but worth a shot.
This is an official entry, provided Angels are higher than +110 when I post the lines later.

pat venditto,

I did not bring your play in from the other thread becaue you had no analysis anyway. If you still want the play, post it here with analysis.

Thanks.

tigers +113

dontrelle willis is gonna be on the mound tonight trying to prove himself after the recent woes he's had and I feel he will do it against oakland's weak lineup. Yeah eveland is a decent pitcher but decent wont be enough to stop the tigers explosive offense. tigers by 2 or more

Cool. Oh higher than +110. My bad, I don't want to spoil everyone with another Stevek173 pick for them to ride unnecessarily so we'll see what happens .

Big Daddy,

No good on Toronto as they did not make the cut (+108).

This is the first time I'm going with the Tigers all season. It is because their offense crushes lefties batting .300 versus them. Also, Oakland is a really weak offensive team.

I'll take the Angles due to the fact they play well on the road and the M's are not very good anywhere.
Wrong team favored IMO.

Detroit Tigers +122

Willis making his first start in a long time tonight for Detroit scares me a little but the plan is to get Gallaraga in the game by the 5th inning or so. I think Willis needs this game bad and will finally get things going.

San Francisco +130

Giants have won 6 of 7. Zito MIGHT be starting the process of pulling his head out of his ass. He has only given up 6 runs his last 3, and last year was 2-0, 2.08 vs NY.

Who knows what Pedro will bring tonight...

Taking a shot with the home dog who has been playing decent of late.

GIANTS + 130

Gotta go with my home town boys 2 nights ina row.
Martinez vs Zito.
Outstanding matchup.
And the Gmen's bats have come alive in the last week or so.
I mean just look @ last night's stats.
Randy Winn hit the 1'st leadoff homerun by a Giant this season.
Bengie Molina collected his 1,000th hit.
And the ol' vet himself Ray Durham, had 3 hits, including a 2 run double.
Gigantes Win!

Zito has beaten the Mets in his last 2 decisions against them. Martinez I don't feel has ever totally recovered from last year's injury and has never been a great early season pitcher.

Giants are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.

#929 LAA +111 : i'm riding the Halo's train with a bunch of others, got to back the starter who's 3-1 vs the opposing team vs. the starter who's 1-3 against the opposing team, and LAA BP has stepped it up lately. Oh, and Seattle just stinks.

The Angels have a better road record (17-11) than Seattle has at home14-17). They are also 7-3 in their last 10 games while Seattle is 3-7 in their last 10.

I'll bite her. Saunders is back on the hill after a bad outing and look for him to be in his old form and get win number 9. Saunders is the better pitcher in this matchup.

Saunders is 8-2 2.76 and 3-1 5.76 @ Sea and 1-0 this year
Bedard 4-3 4.08 and 1-3 6.18 @ LAA

I'd take a healthy Zito over a hurt Martinez anytime as a home dawg. Giants are much better than their record shows.
