Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Monday, 6/02/08

Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

If you have not participated in contests sponsored by DSI in the past, the deadline for submitting your DSI account number is 6:00pm ET on Tuesday, June 3. The deadline for entering plays in the contest and still being eligible for prizes is Wednesday, June 11.

I'll take the Twinkies at home FTW. Pretty even pitching matchup based on this years stats (Liking Livan's 6-2 record) and we get the home team here at a nice price. What's not to like? Min +135 FTW. Book it.

MIN Twins over NY Yankees.
Hernandez (MIN) is 6-2 while Pettitte is 5-5. Since there isn't much between their ERAs (4.60 vs 4.11), I'd go with the better winning record.

Wilforth,

The Braves are not underdogs. If you want to play, make another post with an underdog and analysis. Please read the rules.

MARINERS +116: The Angels are vulnerable as road favorites as they are not hitting at all right now, batting .215 as a team over their last 10 games and scoring four runs or less in 12 straight games. Conversely, the Mariners scored five runs in each of the last two games alone. Ervin Santana cooled off after a hot start, with just one Quality Start in his last four outings, and he only lasted 1/3 of an inning the last time he pitched in Seattle while allowing five earned runs. Washbun has been bad, but he knows the Anaheim lineup afer coming up through their orginization, and besides, the Halos offense could make any pitcher look good right now.

Mariners +116
As LT already pointed out, the Angels have been awful offensively lately. Santana is also nothing special on the road. Over the past three years, Santana has a 5.75 ERA and is 3-2 versus the Mariners. Washburn is 4-2 with a 4.26 ERA versus the Angels.

Texas Rangers +124

Cleveland continues to struggle, they are 3-12 their last 15, and 1-9 their last 10 on the road. They do send Laffey to the mound tonight who a has been solid. Texas has one of the most powerful offenses in the game - hopefully they can get a few runs for their pitcher Mathis, who is only making his 3rd start after being a reliever. He did pitch well in his last outing, a 2-1 win at Cleveland, where he gave up only 1 run over 6 innings. He is capable against the tribe.

Struggling team on the road, vs a high powered offense who who has a capable pitcher. Texas as a home dog +124

Texas +124

I like the Rangers because of mostly what Slick wrote previously. I can only add that Texas is a respectable 14-12 at home, and they're playing decent of late (6-4 last ten). BTW, I PM'd my DSI # earlier today.

Go Rangers.

Chicago may have the best record in the majors, but they are a subpar 10-13 on the road.

10:15PM (EST) 964 San Francisco Giants +111

This is my favorite game on the board. Perez is 0-4 against SF with a high ERA. SF averaging an amazing(for the giants anyways) 4.8 runs against lefty's. Sanchez is the 6th leading money pitcher in baseball right now. Every time SF breaks a losing streak, they've won the following game.

#970 Tex. +124 : the Indians just flat out are sucking. Tex continues to swing a good bat, and the Tex pen is better IMO, just throw out that softball game they played for 2 inning yesterday and they have been pitching decent.

Well the Reds were the earliest game of the day and they were the only available dog that won, so anybody that posted after 1:15 ET was dead in the water.

LOL,

Yeah is looks like the Giants were +111 for about 7 minutes today and it just happened to be at the time of my post. They were/are less than +110 the rest of the time, which would have made them unavailable. Oh well!

Cincinnati hitting is very decent with Bruce in the lineup and they have the better starter going today. Arroyo pitching fine, while Kendrick is mediocre at best. Solid value on Cincinnati as a road dog. Odds should be closer to even.

Braves are struggling as of late and I don't see them rebounding tonight even though they are at home with JoJo on the hill. I see a high scoring game with the Marlins pulling it off.

I guess I'll jump off the reservation here with my fiirst post and go with the Rockies.Based soley on the fact the they probabaly got more sleep today than the Dodgers after last nites game.I look for maybe a couple of errors and some slow bats for what I'mm hoping is a tired Dodger team against a Rockies team looking for any kind of win.
