Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Wednesday, 5/28/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Wow, less than 1/4 unit separates the top two and bottom two. Makes for an interesting last few days.

Fla getting a nice price and having the pitching edge with Olsen against Wild Thing O. Perez. Fla (+125) is the play. Book it.

Balt +120

Baltimore kept getting behind last night and kept coming back. I like that spirit. Again the Yankees are overpriced, on the road and Baltimore falls into the BPS. I now have 4 days to get out of the hole in this contest.

I think the Ranger bats will continue to hit righties like Matt Garza well. I do realize Gabbard's whip is pretty high and he has struggled as of late. I think the Texas offense will more than back him up.

WHITE SOX +123: Going with the early 12 Noon ET start here. Floyd has been great this year, with a 2.93 ERA and 1.08 WHIP, and he has seven Quality Starts out of nine total outings. Westbrook had a nice April, but he is making his first start in the bigs in a month and may be rusty. The White Sox bulloen has also moved up to fourth in the majors with a 3.07 ERA, making them a Bullpen System play.

ChiSox +123.....Well, I guess I just follow LT nowadays. Cleveland got some good licks in against Buehrle last night but I just don't buy that the Indians are well offensively. ChiSox only used 1 reliever last night in a blowout. I also have Floyd @ -102 as a favorite in pure numbers. Jake's 1st time back although he was very good before he got hurt. ChiSox seem to support Floyd better than the Indians support Westbrook and with Westbrook being a bit of a wildcard, I'll take the ChiSox at, what I perceive to be, a good number. 6 solid innings out of Floyd today should spell "winner".

pirates +124
pirates win one game in the 3 game series and it is game 2 .
great game , reds find a way to lose it . maybe silly for me to go against reds with their recent success at home but am going for pitt anyway in this situation .
pitt has won 3 of 4 vs cinn so far this year .

915 Washington Nationals +121

Quite simply, the Padres-- with the worst record in the NL-- haven't proved that they're worth laying -130 against anybody. Two low-scoring offenses, and Estes hasn't pitched against the Nats since 2005. A couple of runs, and the Nats pull this out.

Every time I go against Livan Hernandez, I get burned. I'm going with himtonight on the fact that he is due for another good outing and he owned the Royals in his last start.

Dodgers + 154

This stumbling/bumbling team of evaders, have lost their last two consecutive games by identical scores of 3-1, against the Cubs.
They might have a chance against Zambrano tonight.
Might...

San Francisco Giants +147

Davis just 1 win in last 6 starts versus Giants with era close to 5.50 in those 6 starts.

Sanchez recent pitching to Diamondbacks has been similar, without a win and an era over 6.

I'm hoping the difference here is San francisco's hitting momentum, especially Molina, where Arizona is sitting Byrnes with a recently strained oblique.

SFG got a whiff of gaining some divisional ground with last night's win and I'm hoping it might spill over into tonight's game.

Good luck everybody!
