Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Monday, 5/26/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

The Whitesox (Vazquez) over Cleveland (Byrd). Vaquez has been excellent of late and Byrd not so much. Chicago wins on the road. Chcago 8-2 last 10, Cleveland 2-8...and we still get a price on this? Chicago +120 is the play. Book it.

I'd like to know where you found the CWS at +120. Pinny currently has them as -108 fav's over the tribe.

steve,

I think you misread the line. White Sox are -120 (as in MINUS) at a lot of books.

Texas +

Should be another pitching duel with Ponson vs Kazmir both having a good era year so far. I'm taking the Value when the pitching is so evenly matched.

No dude, CW has it, if you type in password "PIMIKE". Haha kidding. Man and I felt so good about that too lol.
I'll take Atl (Jurgens) over Zona (Webb). Sure Webb is the superfreak, but Atl 21-7 (2nd best in the sport) vs the Backs on the road (11-12) is too lopsided to ignore. If it holds, Atl +110 is the play. Book it.

Jurrjens +116
You must all think I am crazy to fade the reigning NL cy young winner. Well, there is some method to my madness. When most people look at Webb's splits, they realize that he is more dominant on the road since he has a lower ERA and only lost once which was last week. Something that many people overlook is the fact that Webb has faced some pretty awful opponents besides the fish on the road: Padres, Giants, Reds, and Rockies. The Arizona offense has certainly cooled since April and it seems unlikely that they will even be able to touch Jair Jurrjens, who has been extremely dominant at home and has a 1.96 ERA this month. He has a 1.48 ERA at home and is 4-0. Besides, the Dbacks have yet to see his stuff first hand since he is a rookie.

The bottomline is, im taking the better pitching and the better offense.

In that case, Dodgers +112
Billingsley has been awesome this month sporting a 2.16 era. Dempster has also been good, but the Dodger bullpen is better than the Cubbies.

Florida +115.

I actually got a higher line than this but Florida is a better team, better against division rivals, better bull pen, just better. Even tho it's on the road I see them squeaking this one out.

Colorado Rockies +180

Moyer has never beaten the Rockies during his entire career. The Rockies might be starting something after taking 2 of 3 from the Mets.

917 Texas Rangers +185

The pickings are kinda slim this evening-- and I need something that's a big +. The Rangers are my favorite pick that meet this requirement. Ponson and Kazmir are both pitching well. If this is a low-scoring affair, either team could pull it out. I'll take that for +185.

At this price, I will take Texas Rangers tonight although it's seem that hard to beat Tampa but it's better to take others at the other game.

Florida Marlins +115.....Really missed the boat on this line earlier today so the boat may have already sailed on this. However, I had this capped @ Nolasco -103....My opinion is that the Mets are so blah that they are totally neutral in their approach. Hoping to catch the Mets napping more than usual after a road game yesterday even though the Marlins had a DH yesterday with lots of relief innings thrown. Hoping to get Nolasco to go 6 without giving up more than 3 runs in those 6. If I get that, I like my chances because I think the Marlins get some good looks versus Pelfrey.

Mon 5/26 909 Florida Marlins +115
7:10PM (EST) 910 New York Mets

Nolasco's last start is probably one he'll remember for a long time to come. Nolasco pitched seven innings of one-run ball to give Webb his only blemish of the season. Allowed just three hits and struck out seven.

Rockies + 180

In this battle of lefties tonight,
Colorado is an amazing 4-1 (last five games) against the Phillies on the road.
Looks like I survived to celebrate another Memorial Day.
