Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Saturday, 5/24/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

I am a Red Sox fan, and after what Becks did in last years playoffs, I am particularly a Beckett fan. HOWEVER - even though the Sox have been streaking they have still been anything but stellar on the road (10-15) and the A's have been above average at home (23-20). That, combined with the pitching stats Junkman listed above, is enough for me. Book the A's at +131.

Oakland +131.....Hate to sound like a broken record but the A's at this price are too hard to turn down. Beckett hasn't been real sound on the road. Indicators show me that the A's are better than their record and the BoSox (as usual) seem to be getting too much respect from the oddsmakers. BoSox' pen is not good (although a good outing from them last night) so the A's should be able to get 5+ runs today and hoping for a good effort out of Duchscherer.

Good luck to all.

Hate to post before lines come out but have a 11:15 tee time and gotta go.

Royals +125 ?? Royals on a huge road trip in which they have lost 6 of 8. Feel Hochevar has pitched well with little run support. BJ's Litsch been out of starting rotation and hasn't pitched in about 11 days hopeful he is missing a little something.

If by some some fluke royals don't make list please give me the biggest dog cause I need points. THanks

Giants +120
I know I may seem crazy for taking this team for the 2nd day in a row, especially after getting the win from Zito. I think Matt Cain is a solid pitcher and the Giant's offense has been hitting .271 the past couple of days.

The Marlins have also been in a little funk at home, batting a .248. While Badenhop is a rookie and may be successful because the Giants have not seen his stuff, this hasn't given him much success in the past. A team with a worse offense in Kansas City tagged him up for 5 er in 3 innings in his last start at home.

This is the most solid dog on the board imo.

Cardinals are 4-1 in their last 5 games vs. a right-handed starter.
Dodgers are 0-4 in Pennys last 4 starts vs. a team with a winning record.

Twins +154

Robertson is 1-5, 6.08 ERA, 1.6 WHIP - and i think he is 7-8 lifetime against Minnesota. There is ALOT of money with Detroit tonight I will take my chances with the Dog hitting more consistantly then Detroit.

I just like Hochevar. I like him even more against the Jays-- no way Litsch should be this much of a favorite.

#927 Minny : Minny actually has been swinging the bats good against lefties as of late, better than the Tigers have vs. righties or overall for that matter. Throw in that Minnys Pen is better IMO, so i got to take a stab with the Twins.

It's crazy but I track teams in all sports that got robbed late in the game by the officials that could've cost them a win. First base ump clearing missed an 8th inning fair/foul situation for O's that would've tied the game.

Plus like the O's in this spot anyway.

And value.

=WIN!

Basically going against Cleveland who have loss 7 games in a row. C Lee is Cleveland best pitcher with an era just above 1 but he will need some support with the bats. Texas have won 3 in a row and Fieldman should keep it close.

Got to take the Twins here with this line. Minny won last night and Detroit has a losing record at home this season. Detroit starter also carries a lofty era of 6.08 this year. Too good to pass for me.

Default My blunderous play today

930 Oakland Athletics +115

OAKLAND is a surprisingly 19-12 vs. right-handed starters this season.
OAK holds a +2.20 RF\RA differential between the HM and RD performances of these 2 teams.

This line on this game was accurate IMO so I can just hope for a "dog squeaker win here tonite on the west coast. Line is now +110 as money has rolled in on the home dawg.

Sat 5/24 915 St Louis Cardinals +135
10:10PM (EST) 916 Los Angeles Dodgers

Brad Penny's last start was pushed back a day because of tightness in his arm during a bullpen session. When he did take the mound, it turned into his third consecutive disappointing performance. He already has as many losses as he did all last season. Bad season for Penny.

Cards, playing good baseball by hand of Larussa.

The only bull pen system play that qualifies here. Oakland is a home dog which is what you always want in MLB betting.
