Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Friday, 5/23/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Balt +125

Baltimore has let me down over the past 2 games and lost by 1 run to the yankees last night. 1 run losses bring out the best in road teams the next night so let's watch them kick some D ray butt.

Baltimore has the edge in starting pitching in this game and has an edge in the bull pen. Even tho both teams are in the top 10 in bull pens Balt is a solid play at +125.

I will take this price on Greinke as he sports a season era of 2.18 with an average of 6.9 innings per start. Greinke has already made a start vs the Jays this year going 6 innings allowing 3 runs. Halladay warrants a good price with the Royals as he is a public pitcher IMO. The Jays are also not totally on fire at home sporting a .500 record of 11-11.

Arizona +118.....This matchup looks about even to me. Arizona has just had a sweep at the hands of Florida so they should be ready to go support a gritty guy like Doug Davis. Might be a bit of a reach but we might find the Braves a little flat after last night.

Seattle +117.....This is anti Yank play because the Yankees arent an offensive juggernaut and don't seem to support Pettitte very well (such is life for Andy Pettitte). Banking on Bedard getting 6+ innings in tonight. Also think the Mariners are better than the record indicates but that is not saying much.

Good luck to all.

Red Sox are 7-0 in their last 7 games vs. a right-handed starter.
Red Sox are 6-1 in the last 7 meetings.

#964 SD +124 : the Reds are starting to revert back to last year and having troubles with lefties, this west coast trip has been bad. they have went 3-3 vs. LH starters recently and lost all 3 on the road and won the other 3 at home by 5-3, 4-3(vs a minor league call up), 4-2(a walk-off bottom of the 9th HR), the Reds are still sporting a great # on the year vs. lefties and the Pads can't hit, but i'll take my chances in this spot.

RED SOX +131

Going against my home town boys in this one, with Boston coming to town on a 7 game winning streak.

The Red Sox are 4-1 in their last 5 games on the road @ Oakland.

And the A's Harden has spilt his two starts (@ home) against Boston this year.
Winning 5-1 (and) losing 5-0.
Good value.

We'll be @ tomorrow's game.
GL everyone!

Josh Hamilton's return coincides with a Texas hot streak, Cleveland lowly may do better back at home, but teams sometimes take a game to settle in at home following road . . .

Going with the better pitcher in Greinke who is 5-1 with an 2.18 era. Halladay for Toronto is not having his best year with a 4-5 record even though his era is 3.38 which is not bad. Kansas City play well when Greinke pitches and should win this game.

Gabbard has been solid this year and the Ranger's offense has been hot, unlike the Indian's offense.

It's been 5 years since an MLB pitcher opened with 9 straight losses. SF's been winning of late. I'm taking Zito. It's a sucker bet, but I can't help it. Sometimes I'm a sucker.
