Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Thursday, 5/22/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Kennedy is on the mound for the yankees looking to win his first game and he's -155. Once again I think fading the yankees is value. Kennedy is 0 3 8.48 for the year and is 0 1 13.50 ERA vs Baltimore. Burres is 1 0 vs the yankees and worked a shutout into the 6th before leaving the game.

Angels +112. We'll see if I get this line. OK every time I say this I'm guaranteed to lose: THIS LOOKS TOO EASY. Extremely lopsided pitching matchup in Saunders vs. Burnett based on results thus far. Angels won 3 in a row, Jays lost 2. Angels winning road record, Jays losing home record. Bizarre underdog. Book it, I'll take another if not over +110 for this.

Kansas City +205 (current BJ line): too good of a price on Bannister to pass up, they may not win, but it should be low scoring and they will have a shot

ORIOLES +149: Ian Kennedy does not deserve to be a prohibitive favorite like this over anybody, as he is 0-3 with the Yankees going 1-5 as a team whenever he starts, and his key numbers are simply atrocious, an 8.48 ERA and 1.88 WHIP. He has already had one poor outing vs. the Orioles this year, allowing four earned runs on five hits and five walks in only 2.2 innings at Camden Yards in April. Brian Burress has performed admirably despite his 4-4 record, with a very good 3.47 ERA and a respectable 1.34 WHIP in 49.1 innings. He also tossed a gem vs. the Bronx Bombers in Camden earlier this year, hurling 5.2 scoreless innings. He is backed by an Orioles bullpen that ranks third in the American League with a 3.32 ERA, making Baltimore a Bullpen System play. This could be Kennedy's swan song from the rotation (Joba Chamberlain anyone?).

Kennedy is 0-6 at Baltimore and Burres shut the Yankees out the last time he faced them, working into the sixth inning of a 6-0 win for Baltimore.

Not sure what Kennedy's done to deserve this kind of respect. In fact, he's done nothing, which makes this an automatic play at the current price.

Santana has been great on the road. Burnett has been awful at home. He has yet to have one quality outing at home where opponents are hitting .365 against him.

Orioles are 6-1 in their last 7 games vs. a starter with a WHIP greater than 1.30.
Yankees are 0-4 in Kennedys last 4 starts.

I don't usually like to post a play that dominates the board here but I have not choice here. Kennedy is terrible and the Yanks are not playing well at the moment altho they did win last night.

Burres carries an era that is 5 runs lower than Kennedy and is getting +49. I'll take that any day.

Its all been said already but Ian Kennedy is not deserving of this line. Of course, there is the chance the Yanks pound Burress but there is a great deal of value here.

I have to jump on this bird bandwagon too.
Besides, Baltimore is 7-3 in it's last ten games (and) NY is only 3-7.

Even if Santana pitches to form, Turner field on a Friday night with hot Atlanta bats are capable of putting any such effort to waste for the Mets who are also fresh off a pounding.
