Darren Driefort is my pick for the most overpaid player. this guy was slated to make $13.4 mil in 2005, but never played, having surgery. The Dodgers paid him a lot of money for a career 4.36 ERA guy.

2005: 124 R, 48 HR, 130 RBI, 1.031 OPS
2004: 112 R, 36 HR, 106 RBI, 0.888 OPS 2003: 124 R, 47 HR, 118 RBI, 0.995 OPS 2002: 125 R, 57 HR, 142 RBI, 1.015 OPS 2001: 133 R, 52 HR, 135 RBI, 1.021 OPS 2000: 134 R, 41 HR, 132 RBI, 1.026 OPS 1999: 110 R, 42 HR, 111 RBI, 0.943 OPS (All this in only 129 games) 1998: 123 R, 42 HR, 124 RBI, 0.920 OPS Under no circumstances are these the numbers of an overpaid player. These are the numbers of one of the top offensive threats in the league every year for nearly a decade. These are the numbers of Alex Rodrieguez. Don't let bias cloud your judgement. You can't argue against these numbers. And, I'm sorry, but "Well, I just don't like him," is not a valid argument. The facts speak for themselves, and they drown out any jealousy over his contract.

Jason Kendall the catcher for the A's is a HORRIBLE contract.
Arod...if he doesn't win mvp and a world series ring...he is extremely overpaid..maybe not the *most* but according to his postions...he gets paid more than 2x what Tejada gets and more than 3x where Aramis Ramirez gets. |

Ramirez has hit over 100 RBI twice in his career. Over 75 three times. He has more than 20 home runs but twice in his career.
He doesn't deserve to approach A-Rod in salary. A-Rod has been the model of consistency for a decade. Ramirez doesn't even come close. And I didn't even mention that Rodrieguez has at least 15 stolen bases in all but one of the seasons I listed, including 46 in 1998.

This is one of those deals where everyone has their own criteria for what over- and underpaid are. Not sure there is a 'right answer' here. Rodriguez puts butts in the seats, so once you include that with his stats, it's hard to say he's overpaid, in my opinion.
Isn't Bobby Bonilla still owed money by the Mets? If so, he'd get my vote for 2006 ![]() Chan Ho Park is one that pops immediately into mind. He made about $50 million the last four seasons and contributed a 5.61 ERA and 26-26 record. Throw Mike Hampton in there as well.

Hey I agree A-Rod is a stud. I like A-Rod. I just put his name on
there cause he makes $25 mil a year. There's franchises that pay the whole team almost that much right? There's this Angel pitcher who got a huge contract and everyone I know was shocked. I forgot his name. |

ARod is highly paid but not even close to being overpaid. Winston has provided all the evidence necessary. Those are just utterly gaudy numbers.

But then again, with all your Yankee talk through out the forums, I thought they would be a lock in your eyes.

I haven't smoked yet your right. I just felt like your making fun of
me for liking the yankees. I already put $300 on the yankees future book I got 5-1. |

I don't think I could ever put much money on a future and have it held onto for so long.... personally
