Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 5/20/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Baltimore +137

Betting against the yankees is always value. Orioles are 7 3 last 10 and well the yankees are 3 7 last 10.

I hope this line stays but...

Pineiro +114
This is more of a fade against the Padres and their horrendous offense. Maddux does not pitch as well against good offenses, like the Cubs and Diamondbacks.

Balt

I see value here for what should be an even game. Both pitchers has been solid, but Baltimore is the hotter team.

BRAVES-G1 +112: Needless to say, I am very happy about getting +125 on this in real life! Maine had his worst start of the year here in Atlanta vs. a Braves team that is now batting .308 at home vs. right-handed pitching. Glavine may be at the end of the line, but he has still alllowed two earned runs or less in four of his six "normal" starts this year, excluding the other one where he was pulled after 16 pitches with a hamstring injuiry. The Braves are also a Bullpen System play, and any team that is 16-5 at home and 3-0 as a home underdog (including once vs. Mets with Santana) is worth a look as a home dog.

Have to go with my boys in this one. I think rookie Smith gets the A's back on the winning track at home.

Its a double header. Funny stuff happens in DHs even though the mets have the slight pitching edge. Ill take the home dog and hope glavine doesnt completly suck.

This line is too high IMO. The Tigers are struggling. In their last 3 games they are hitting .198 while Verlander (Detroit starter) has had a bad start to the year sporting a 1-7 record and an era of 6.05

At 4-1, Cabrera is the better pitcher and Baltimore is a mentionable 19-9 in night games. Also, the Os have won as many games (9) on the road as the Yanks have won at home.

Tue 5/20 911 San Francisco Giants +122
8:35PM (EST) 912 Colorado Rockies

Lincecum received a no-decision although he appeared bound for a victory in his most recent start last Thursday against Houston. He struck out 10 in six innings and left with a 7-3 lead. But the bullpen allowed Houston five runs in the final two innings, dooming the Giants to an 8-7 loss.

History:

Lincecum picked up his first Major League victory on May 11, 2007, at Coors Field, lasting seven innings in an 8-3 Giants triumph.

Verlander has struggled this year so far. Hoping the Mariner bats can put a few runs on the board and that Silva pitches like he did to start the season.

Verlander has only had one good outing at home. If he gets in trouble, I hear the boo birds coming and that will shake his young, fragile confidence.

Dempster's a nice story, but I think it's inevitable that his performance will fall off considerably. Houston's offense performs extremely well at home, and although Sampson lacks consistency, he can be quite effective.

Agree Dempster is a nice story, but I see the fall off too. Sampson has done well vs. the Cubbies and will continue to do so.

The pitching matchup is about even STL (Pineiro) & San Diego (Maddux). St Louis have played good baseball all season and have a better lineup.

The line seems low given Boston's home record.Masterson is up from the minors for probably just the one start and then back down. I look for KC bats to regain their pre-Lester no-hitter form. Also Meche pitches Boston well.

The tough luck pitcher of the season goes for Oakland...he's got zero run support this year but has pitched well. Oakland needs to win this tonight because tomorrow doesn't get any easier.
