Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Monday, 5/19/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Well my book has em at +111 so I'll take em for now but if I lose the line here that's cool I'll take something else.
Hou +111 at home vs Chi. Lily has been awful giving Moehler the pitching edge at home. Book it.

Hochevar has been good thus far. The Royals also hit lefties well. I'm not totally convinced that Lester is this dominant.

I like Texas in this one, coming off a loss, but having won seven straight series. Also, they've won 5 of their last 7 on the road. Feldman has been pretty solid for Texas. Boof Bonser has been just that.

Lester's last two outtings have been losses for the Sox; Hochevar pitched a 2-0 win over Detroit in his last start.

Feldman the better starter w/ a much better ov'all ERA by 3+ points. My line sets up as TEX -112.
Granted Minny's bullpen is much better but IMO the Rangers get it done here.

Redding has been pitching well this year and has a good record vs. Phillies. True, Redding's record has been more impressive on road than at home, but I look for him and his team to focus on the first game of an at-home series where there has been room for improvement.

Astros are 5-1 in their last 6 games vs. a left-handed starter.
Astros are 5-0 in Moehlers last 5 starts.

I actually bet this game a little less than I"m getting here. Houston is 12 and 4 up over 10 units in may. Lilly is favoured on the road. Take the home dog.

I'm taking Moehler over Lilly in this match up. Both pitchers are giving up many runs with era's well over 4. I like the hot bats of Houston to win in a high scoring game.

Both teams a game under .500 but the Rangers have been hotter and have the better hurler going tonight. Fresh team after a long home stand, look for them to get the win tonight.

Rangers have seemed to find their zone, winning 7 straight series. Bosner seems to leave his team behind in a majority of his starts and has a career 7.24 ERA against the Rangers. Minnesota's offense has struggled with Carlos Gomez. Feldman has a 1.86 ERA in his 3 starts.

Myers has been off and has a 5.91 era and has allowed 6 in his last 2 starts while Redding has an era of 3.55 and bounced back from a 5 er performance by allowing 1 in his last outing. Redding also went 7 strong with 0 er against the Phillies earlier in the year.

Myers' struggles, particularly on the road, are a legitimate concern, while Redding continues to be one of the most overlooked and underrated pitchers in the game.

Cubbies coming off a huge homestand, and Lilly has pitched o.k. lately. I really don't like either pitcher, and both teams are playing well right now. So it's all a wash and the numbers point to the home team....ala the Stros.
