Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Saturday, 5/17/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

San Diego +125

They have a good record in inter league play so I have to go with the team that wins more in that category.

Pittsburgh Pirates +218

I'm playing the number here to make some headway in the contest because with this play, most players will be around 2/3 the way through to the 20 pick minimum at point at which some of the leaders might choose to stand pat.

Also, whenever I play a large fav on a Saturday they always seem to lose, so, going with the large dog . . . not the soundest of handicapping to be sure, but that's where I'm coming from on this one . . .

Galarraga +115

Galarraga has pitched well since coming to the majors. Scherzer has been decent, but he has yet to face a high powered offense like Detroit's. The closest thing he has faced was the Phillies offense, which rung him up for 5 er in 4 innings.

i think you have this the other way around. i'm not going to take the game cuz i like the mets here anyway. i hate pettite, but as a home dog he is tempting. unless the line from americasline.com is wrong then there are gonna be some pretty happy yankee fans here today.

milwaukee game 1- jeff suppan +200

you never know what suppan will show up. i am banking on the good suppan. dice-k has looked vulnerable, and he seems to be walking a lot more batters than he has in years past. milwaukee has power top to bottom and they are great at making walks turn into runs. of course the same can be said for boston but its the +200 that has me hooked here. go brew-crew!!

MOONCRICKET,

The line I posted is correct. You posted the original line before Santana was pushed back by Friday's rainout. Just check the current lines on sbrlines.

DODGERS +150: This is a nice price for a BPS play. Park has earned his first start with some nice work out of the bullpen, where he had a 2.16 ERA in 25 innings. He is used to this starting role, being a starter for his whole career, and he has the support of a Dodgers bullpen that ranks second in the National League with a 3.09 ERA. Now Santana is having a great year for the Halos, but he is coming off of his worst start of the season, where he allowed five earned runs and nine hits in just 5.2 innings at Tampa Bay.

Santana is very good, but he has been pitching pretty high pitch counts lately. Thinking Yankees have a shot of getting some runs against him and Pettitte can be fine here.

Taking The Brewers after having a postponed game, they should come out with hot with having a DH in the lineup. Boston have had a bad stretch of games and I'm hoping that continues

Today's start is significant for Park as he works his way back and Santana, at 6-0, wasn't as sharp his last outting and is due for a loss.

Always like backing a pitcher coming off a poor start, Harden can often be dominant, and the Braves are having difficulty with the back-end of their pen.
