Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Wednesday, 5/7/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Last day to enter contest and be eligible for prizes is May 12.

Washington Nationals -Good value for a Nationals team that has been playing decent of late and Perez who is undervalued because he is 0-3 even though his era is decent and the era of his last three appearances is 1.89 compared to Oswalts 4.26.

Texas Rangers / current +139

Their bats are hot and seattles not hiting. Seas been a hot/cold and a rather sketchy team this year.

Wainwright +105 Wainwright has been on this year, with a WHIP under 1. Expect the cards to take down the inconsistent Jeff Francis.

TB +132

This is easily a pick'em game. Both starters have been solid and bullpens are evenly match. Toronto's offence is just too low-scoring for them to be a -140+ fav in what appears to be an even game

fifawcs,

You lucked out here because the Cards went to +111, but for the future, remember that I only list dogs greater than +110 for selection. Thus if St. Louis would have been +105 as you posted, your play would not have counted.

Barry Zito is back and what better place to bounce back than my hometown of Pittsburgh, the Pirates are terrible this season against left handed pitchers and I expect Zito to get his first win of the season against my team tonight.

#969 TB +132 : same as yesterday, i'll back the team that at least seems to generate runs, i don't care if Garza sucks or not.

LT , how did i go from being 2-3 -0.63 on Tuesday to being 3-3 -1.91 today?

951 Chicago Cubs +123

At this point, there aren't a lot of teams that I wouldn't take the Cubs at > +120 against. They've been slumping a bit, but they've got big bats and (for the most part) quality pitching. Ramirez is back today, and CIN hasn't been scoring too much lately either.

Beacuse I accidently gave you a -1.28 instead of a +1.28.

There were a lot of mistakes last night, so I am fixing the standings now.

Sorry Guys, not much sleep last night and I did standings at 5 AM.

chi cubs +123: primarily betting this one because i am bored and its the first game on the board. lieber was masterful against stl in long relief the other day, and while i do like volquez a lot i think that chi is just the better team overall so i am counting on volquez to get smacked around early then settle in while lieber just picks up where he left off the other night, changing speeds in and out versus a free swinging aggressive cincy lineup. i have a gut feeling that d lee will hit a bomb in the first inning and give leiber a couple runs to work with so he can just throw strikes, but even if this turns into a duel i still feel that lieber is crafty enough to keep the cubbies in the hunt.

951 Chicago Cubs +123

Edinson Volquez is a young stud, probably going to have a big breakout season, but give me the Cubs here. They are maybe the best lineup in the NL, having clear lineup advantage here and Lieber is not a bad pitcher. If Volquez isn't totally lights out, Chicago should be able to compete. Estimating this as pretty much a 50/50 coinflip, so give me the + price here.

fyi- misch is starting against sf today not zito, which makes sf much more playable even though i really dont like either side. if zito was on the hill pitt would be a no brainer and while misch is no stud anything is better than barry " room service" zito. god, its amazing what changing leagues has done to this once dominant starter. his curveball is either in the dirt or hanging out somewhere in the wheelhouse. imagine having paid 100+million for that..... sf could have just signed a minor leaguer and sent 100 grand to a thousand people who are struggling to make ends meet and they would be faring better

Rays 17-15 vs Jays 16-18. Garza is no prize, but he gets enough run support to notch another W.

juuso i am with you on the cubs for different reasons but i have been hearing a lot of people talk about the cubs lineup as being the best in the NL, but in my humble opinion both philly and az are much more fearsome. and i can make a case for stl, mil, fla, nym, and atl being as good or better. no one ever seems to mention fla as one of the top lineups and maybe i am biased because i live in south florida but when your #6 hitter (dan uggla) is going to hit 300 with 30+ homers and over 100rbi it tough to argue that they dont have the best lineup. just a thought.

RAYS +132: Both of these bullpens are ranked in the top 10 in ERA, so this is not a Bullpen System play, but I do see value in the Rays here. Now I like Marcum a lot, but I also think that Garza is a lot better than his numbers, and he is just now rounding to form after back-to-back nice starts. Also I can't lay big odds with the Jays until they start hitting.

Toronto are 8-17 (-12.5 U) in night games and 7-10 (-4.9 U) after a loss this season! Tampa are 13-9 (+4.6 U) against right-handed starters!

Cardinals +111

St. Louis are playing well and Colorado is not. Plus Francis has sucked this year. Will go with the hotter team and better pitcher.
