Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Tuesday, 5/6/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Last day to enter contest and be eligible for prizes is May 12.

SONNANSTINE is 2-0 on road starts this season so far.BURNETT then has a 8.38 era in home starts, so lets try TB.

Utley and the boys are hot, zona not so much lately. Both solid pitchers, but RJs fastball and slider are not what they used to be, but still better then manys

Sonnanstine has a similar ERA to Burnett, however, his WHIP is much lower. With a 1.61 WHIP, expect Burnett to run into some trouble with the ray's offense early on.

Rookie on the hill for Atlanta vs the veteran Young. Look for the Pads to get to Jair early tonight. Pads take one on the road.

#921 TB +128 : i'll back the team that can at least generate runs, how Tor. fails to score is beyond me, with solid hitters like Rios,Wells,Overbay,Hill and Stairs, somehow they are 6th from the bottom in the league in runs scored and only 7 teams have left more people on the bag than them.

Sonnanstine is 3-0 in his last 3 starts, including a 5-3 TB win over TOR. Burnett's jays have lost 3 of his last 4 starts vs. TB.

going with the rookie adenhart .He showed promise in the minors and had a case of nerves in his first start .bannister has lost his last 4 and kc sucks

Los Angeles Angels +123

I like the Angels in Kansas City tonight. The starter for the Angels(Adenhart) got beat up bad in his debut and I think he will bounce back in his second start and show what he is made of against KC. Bannister is decent but he relies on flyball outs and Im hoping the Angels will hit the gaps with those flyballs. Im not ready to believe KC is a legit middle tier team yet.

Phillies are leading their division after winning 7 of their last 10. Philly is a solid 9-6 on the road, too.

Frank Catalanotto returns to the Rangers line-up and Ponson was stellar in his last start against the Royals, holding them to one run on six hits and two walks in eight innings.

he should be able to wait him out then deliver the knockout punch when he sees an opportunity

Minnesota

Blackburn has been solid this year, and White Sox can't hit anything. Twins bats have been solid recently.

913 Philadelphia Phillies +136

I’m not going to stray from the Phillies despite what looks like another pitching mismatch on paper. They took the first game of this series rather easily last night and the momentum continues to build. Philadelphia has now won 11 of its last 15 games to move into first place in the National League East. The offense continues to be up and down (it was an up last night) but the pitching remains a constant positive. The Phillies have now won 10 of the last 14 meetings in Arizona.

Adenhart has good stuff and I think he bounces back with a solid start. Will almost always take the Angels as a dog against the Royals.

While Cleveland has underachieving quite bad so far, they still have maybe the 3rd best batting lineup in the AL, and very solid pitching overall. Carmona is very good and i kind of like Tribes chances here as a small dog.

Following the crowd here... Toronto hasn't won 6 straight since 2004. Both TB and TOR have solid pens, and TB should score more in the first half. TB has scored 9 more runs than TOR in the last 7 days.
