Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Friday, 5/2/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

*IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

6. And here’s the fine print:

• Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
• One entry per home and computer.
• Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
• Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
• Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
• All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
• SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Last day to enter contest and be eligible for prizes is May 12.

whatever the seattle line will be (right now its +128)

Playing the following trend: Seattle has never lost the first Friday in May in a leap year coming off a loss in extra inning with Erik Bedard starting the game for them. I think there's a good chance the trend will continue today.

Tampa Bay +159

The Red Sox are struggling to score runs and they face Edwin Jackson who has been very effective so far this year. While Bucholz is coming off a strong outing, he is certainly capable of giving up runs. The bullpen advantage goes to the Rays thus far this year as well. Too much value here to pass up...

Seattle +126

Bedard should hold down the struggling Yankees tonight. Wang won't get his usual run support and teams have been getting their hits off him lately.

I changed my mind, I will play. I PM'd my BJ Account#. Thanks SBR & BJ.

My first play is: Texas +135

Rangers have Padilla on the mound; he's 3-2 with a solid 3.79ERA. Oakland is just 8-7 at home. So make Texas my dog of the day.

Tampa Bay +159: Rays have won 9 of their last 10 games. Jackson only allowed the Nation to score 1 run in their last meeting. The Sox are having a tough time scoring runs as well. They will have a tough time all weekend against the Rays pitching.

Didn't know if editing my post would void my entry today so wanted to correct a piece of info. Rays have won 8 of their last 9 games....not 9 of 10 as I originally wrote.

Twins +126 Home dog playing a division rival, Twins are staying at home while Detroit continues to travel. While Detroit has improved laying over -130 on the road is the wrong way to go. Minnesotas bullpen is rested while detroit has been pitching some innings.

dannyt76,

You are correct, any edited post is a LOSS. You did it properly by adding second post.

TAMPA BAY RAYS +159: This is a Bullpen System play as Tampa Bay leads the majors with a 2.43 pen ERA while the Boston pen is struggling along in 27th at 5.11. Rays starter Jackson tossed a gem vs. the Red Sox last week, allowing just one run and five hits in seven innings. Boston as a team is just 1-4 in all of Buchholz's starts.

louisvillekid, as per the rules, only dogs greater than +110 will be listed.

Texas goes for #3 in a row tonight. Padilla was money in his last outing throwing a shutout for the first time for Texas since 2001. Texas has got some momentum on their side and their fighting for Washington's job.

Yankees have a lot of lefties, one of their guys is hurt, and and Yanks usually suck in 1 run games so dog ML is good as opposed to +1.5.

Hochevar, will use a sinker curveball combination, and that should frustrate the Indians bats, I hope anyways.

KC +185, this is an absurd number to get vs clev imo. Hoch is a talented kid and should have enough to keep KC close. I like the KC pen and will take most anyone at this number.

909 Milwaukee Brewers +130

Milwaukee is coming off a huge win in Chicago yesterday, scoring three runs in the top of the 9th to take two of three in the series. It has been a while since the Brewers have won back-to-back games, nine days to be exact, but a win like the one on Thursday can give all sorts of confidence to a team. There were the days when Houston used to own this series with Milwaukee but that has since changed as the Brewers won 13 of the 18 meetings last season.
