Default Yankees payroll vs Marlins success!!!

I know that this is pretty much old news by now but after yesterday's no hitter by Anibal Sanchez I was thinking about just how great a story this 2006 Marlins really are...

Check this quote...

The Marlins' current everyday lineup earns a total of $3.134,500. Which is only slightly less than Craig Wilson ($3.3 million) -- and less than 16 different Yankees altogether.

Here's the full story...

That's why I hope the Marlins make the playoffs. This story is so great for baseball.

Absolutely Ill...
I was hearing about it yesterday...
If the Marlins can somehow succeed with such a low payroll maybe other teams will think about it before tossing 15 and 20mill a season to some players...
I still think the Marlins will come short, but they've been fun to watch, no matter what...

It's truly amazing to see what Gardi has done with this fish team. I'd love to see this Marlins team win the Wild card race, with that low payroll. That might be one was of implementing a salary cap of some sort. Think about it though, some of these owners might just change there tune on the way they spend there money, and start to build up thru the draft, and there farm clubs like the A's, Marlins, and Twins have been doing very successfully.

Let me preface this by saying I absolutely detest Jeffrey Loria.

This is a great story, and both Girardi and the players should be applauded. But to think this is going to have some longterm effect on how a bunch of other teams run their operations is a bit naive. I'd love to see some sort of salary cap or, short of that, more fiscal responsibility on the part of the MLB owners. But I'm pessimistic about it happening. We've already seen how it has affected the AL East where everyone has to keep up with the Yankees or resign themselves to playing for second place.
