Default Cubs sign Kevin Gregg...why?

I thought Kerry Wood was the closer. Is it a money issue? Will Gregg be the set-up guy for Carlos Marmol?

There have been some puzzling moves already this off-season.

What is wrong with strengthening your bullpen? You can never have too many solid guys in your bullpen.

Gregg is solid? Seems like every time out, Gregg was blowing a save. Or was that just when I was on the Marlins?

Cubs GM Jim Hendry said it was a case of Chicago not wanting to offer the 3-4 year deal for the money Wood is expected to get now. Got to think Marmol will be the closer now with Gregg setting up, and that pair is far cheaper than a Marmol-Wood duo in the pen.

I think Gregg will make a fine setup guy. In fact, I think they may be better off having Marmol close.

Hit it on the nose Willie

They aren't re-signing Wood & need a new setup guy since Marmol will take over for Wood...simple as that (even though I think they gave up more in Ceda than they needed to)

The Cubs should have just signed Hoffman.
