NEW YORK (AP)—The New York Yankees have given themselves an option at first base, acquiring Nick Swisher from the Chicago White Sox for pitching prospect Jeff Marquez and infielder Wilson Betemit.

The teams also swapped a pair of minor league right-handers as part of the deal, with Chicago receiving Jhonny Nunez and New York getting Kaneoka Texeira.

Swisher, who turns 28 on Nov. 25, hit just .219 with 24 homers and 69 RBIs last season, and his .332 on-base percentage was the lowest of his career. He could replace Jason Giambi at first base but also can play all three outfield positions.
eh...... w/e yankees suck

Upgrade maybe as far as outfield backup, and cheaper than keeping Giambi.

Good pickup for the Yankees IMO.

I think Swisher is a good, cheap pickup who will be able to fill in the gap left by Giambi's departure.

I strongly dislike Nick Swisher although I guess he is a good pick up value-wise. I have a real Swisher heckling problem that has landed me in hot water at Yankee Stadium before... Could be an interesting year depending on where they place my season seats...

Lol. I've never been too crazy about Dirty 30 either. But that may change this year.

Swish had some pop, but the cell is an easy hitters park. He didn't hit for shit, so I do not like this signing for the Yanks.

Good deal by the Yanks. He probably won't have the stats he had in Oakland, but this is a low risk/high reward deal. He can play LF or 1b, and the Yanks can still get Tex, and move Swisher to left.

Agree, guy should play 120+ games in various positions and hit 20+ homers. For the Yankees, this is a cheap deal.
