so from those stats there is no clear winner
    they all have major problems
    defense for the marlins
pen and hitting with the mets

actually, from those numbers, they agree with me that philly wins

    Short answer: Sell

I was raised on the baseball saw: Pitching, Defense, and timely Hittting.

They don't pitch it. Starters ERA is like 27th in MLB.

They don't catch it. Tons of errors.

They do hit the hell out of the baseball.

I just don't think you can win a division playing Gorilla Baseball.

    Just my two cents...

    Doc

Completely meaningless post simply based on the fact that Josh Johnson returned last week and Anibal Sanchez returns tonight.

When you don't have your #3 and #4 starter all year and Mark Hendrickson and Rick Vandenhurk fill in, yeah your ERA will tend to suck.

With Johnson and Sanchez back, the ERA will go down.

The NL East is CLEARLY a 3 team race. Its August. Pretenders don't make it till August.

So because MJFtheGenius can't name a pitcher on the Marlins, they can't win the NL East.

Its all been figured out guys. Time to close the thread.

How about a friendly ban bet?

If the Marlins DON'T win the NL East, I will take a week off.

If the Marlins DO win the NL East, you take a month off.

    deal?

Johnson and Sanchez returning don't change what the numbers are. The numbers are what they are. And right now, Florida's ERA is 14th in the NL.

And Johnson and Sanchez don't figure to help the fact that the Marlins can't catch the baseball. 1st in the NL with 88 errors.

Johnson and Sanchez returning doesn't change the numbers? LOL WUT?

yeah it won't change the first half stats but it WILL change the 2nd half stats......check this out too:

Since June 31st, the Marlins team ERA is sub 4 to put them at SIXTH in all of MLB.

You won't get an argument from me about their defense. They are god awful. But a team that leads all of MLB in HR's can sometimes outrun their defensive mishaps.
