Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Sunday, 6/01/08

Starting Sunday (June 1), we will start a new June Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $200 account at DSI, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 DSI account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

    *IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at DSI prior to making picks SIGN UP Here.

Before participating, players must PM their Diamond Sports International account ID to SBRforum Staff

    1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

    3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.
*-EXCEPTION: If someone edits a post on the last day of the competition in an attempt to get an automatic loss in order to win the Last Place prize, then the original post will stand.

    6. And here’s the fine print:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per home and computer.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

If you have not participated in contests sponsored by DSI in the past, the deadline for submitting your DSI account number is 6:00pm ET on Tuesday, June 3. The deadline for entering plays in the contest and still being eligible for prizes is Wednesday, June 11.

Kind of an ugly board for Underdogs today. I'll take Sea +130. Bonderman has not been very sharp this year, and have you seen Det.'s away record? Book it.

Although the Dodgers are missing some key players, I think they can take the Mets tonight. Kuroda has been excellent this month, posting a 2.89 ERA. Although he has not had the benefit of getting run support. The Dodger's team hits lefties well though, batting .296 as a team. Also, the Dodgers are 9-1 on Sunday games this year.

In this match up both pitchers are having a bad year with their era's very high. I like Houston to out score Milwaukee and Chacon (Hou) is a better pitcher out of the two.

Cueto is pitching well at home with a 3-1 record while Hudson is 2-2 on the road. Cincinnati has dominated ATL at home, winning at well over a 70% clip. After an emotional victory I expect Cincinnati to take care of business and really go after a sweep here, as they havent had the opportunity to do so much this year.

PIRATES +124: The Pirates seemingly always play the Cardinals tough, so last night's 14-4 win was no fluke. Pittsburgh starter Ian Snell is much better than he looked while getting shelled by Cincinnati last time out. Snell has allowed one earned run or less in three of his last four starts at St. Louis, while Braden Looper was lit up for seven earned runs while allowing nine baserunners in four innings the last time he faced Pittsburgh.

Detroit's offense is anemic and Seattle has the momentum after yesterday's easy win. I can't see Detroit winning a road series with this line up.

Chisox +111. Rays have won 9 of 12, however, Sonnanstine has been on the mound in two of those three losses. Plus his last outing against the Rangers, he was pounded for seven runs in the first two innings.

Houston +116.....Betting against the sweep here as the Brewers pitching has made the Astros offense struggle the last 2 games. The Astros have scored 5 runs the last 4 games. Bush, traditionally, is better at home but I think the Astros gotta break out at some time. Not real excited about Chacon but he did have a nice outing last Tuesday against the Cards so will try to roll with him and see if I can start this month's contest out right.

    Good luck to all.
