Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Thursday, 5/8/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

    *IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

    1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

    3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

    6. And here’s the fine print:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per home and computer.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Last day to enter contest and be eligible for prizes is May 12.

I think the Padres are long overdue for a win, Ledezma is not that bad of a pitcher.

since they were my pick 2 days in a row on here and lost so why not make it 3 .
is a play against reyes and braves bullpen . chasing a team to win is not good but will do it anyway .

Moose isn't any where near the pitcher he once was. He's been pitching well of late, looking for that to end here. Yankees offense is cold as well

TWINS +132: The Twins qualify as a Bullpen System play, and their starter Slowey tossed a gem vs. the White Sox the only time he faced them. Meanwhile, Danks has an 8.35 ERA lifetime vs. Minnesota.

Twins +132 An LT bullpen play but the twins have been playing with some enthusiasm lately. They are 4 and 1 in may up 3.6 units. CWS aren't worthy of being -140 against the twins.

Twins- The pitching here seems like the Twins should be getting a bit more credit. The Sox haven't been too impressive of late (the manager might want to take a chill pill) and I think the Twins are the correct play here.

Myers had a solid outing last start, he's hitting his locations and his fastball is popping. Webb comes off of his worst start of the year, albeit a win. The Diamondbacks are not hitting in this series, however. The momentum favors the Phillies in this one...

Gonna go with the Giants again, they got their "Ace" Cain going today, and I cant see the Pirates sweeping anyone, lol. Maybe if I keep fading the Bucs they will keep winning .

Anytime I can get Mussina as a favorite I'll jump all over the dog. In this case the dog being the Indians, good offense, I'll be taking them today.

Rangers +147. I like Gabbard's chances here against a weak weak Seattle offense. If he can hold the M's to 2 runs or less I see them having a great chance to get the W here.

LT, I just sent my Betjam info to staff.

SF +112 for me today. I like Cain's rhythm lately, though he's going to need to keep his pitch count down in the early innings. I'd say the Giants need him to go 7 with 3 ER or less to be in this. Also worth noting, the only other play I like on this card is the Twins, who are getting hammered by a lot of you, so I'm rolling with SF.

The Sox are still scuffling. Both starters will get knocked out early, leaving it to the bullpens. Advantage: Twins

Things are not going good in Seattle and it is starting to boil over with some frustrations. Seattle has dropped seven of its last eight games and 11 of its last 14 as both the offense and the pitching is causing the problems. The bats have mustered two runs or fewer in six of the last seven games and the Mariners have averaged a mere 3.1 rpg over their last 18 games. The pitching has not been quite as bad but it has allowed five runs or more in five of the last eight games.

Gabbard has been good this season. While King Felix is also a good pitcher, the Seattle offense has been stagnant of late. Take the Rangers and their hot bats.
