Default Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest - Sunday, 5/4/08

Starting Thursday (May 1), we will start a new May Baseball Underdog of the Day Contest with a prize of $250 account at BetJamaica, 3 time roll-over. Last place will receive a $25 BetJamaica account with a 3 time roll over. If there is a tie for last place in both units and wins (20 plays minimum), there will be be multiple last place boobie prizes.

    *IMPORTANT*
All players must have an account at BetJamaica prior to making picks Sign up here

Before participating, players must PM their BetJamaica account ID to SBRforum Staff

    1. Check in the BASEBALL HANDICAPPING FORUM each day for the daily thread to be posted by LT Profits. Lines will be posted by 1:00 p.m. (ET) each day. Plays may be posted before that, but the official posted lines will be used for grading.

    2. Only the UNDERDOGS in games posted by LT will be eligible for selection, which will be only games that have underdog prices of greater than +110.

    3. All plays will be RISKING one unit, and selections may NOT be changed once posted.

    4. Here’s the catch: Your play must include a write-up! The write-up does not have to be long, just a sentence or two (or more) about why you are making your play.

    5. Entries that are past-post or do not have analysis will be NO ACTION. Any edited post will count as a LOSS! If you make a mistake, need to add analysis or wish to enter a corrected line, do so in a separate post. This holds true even if the first game on the schedule did not go off yet. It also holds true for past-posts and entries with no analysis. It does NOT hold true for posts that are not contest selections, i.e. standings, commentary posts, LT's notes to posters or congratulatory posts.

    6. And here’s the fine print:

    • Must be 18 years of age or older to participate.
    • One entry per home and computer.
    • Must use lines posted in daily thread by LT Profits
    • Maximum one underdog pick per day, minimum 20 underdog plays required to be eligible for monthly prize.
    • Tiebreaker for first place is total WINS. If still tied, combatants will carry on a head-to-head underdog match until winner is determined. This would begin on the first day of next month with no passes allowed. If co-leader passes during tie-breaking period, he or she is eliminated, even if other co-lealers lose.
    • All decisions made by SBR with regards to this contest are final.
    • SBR employees eligible to participate but are not eligible to win the monthly prize.

Last day to enter contest and be eligible for prizes is May 12.

Giants +168 (or whatever you end posting)

There is defiantly value here with Lincecum pitching. The Giants aren't nearly as bad as I thought preseason (thus far at least) and Hamels/Phillies are getting too much credit here. Even in Lincecums loss the score was 3-2, so I figure if the Giants get the bats going a little bit they should be alright.

    L.A. Dodgers (+115)

Since I'm travelling home today I'll post now. Dodgers have been on a roll lately winning their last 8 and I don't see them slowing down now. They are also a LT bull pen play.

    910 Houston Astros

Ben Sheets is an excellent pitcher, but he just had some triceps problems and was a bit off last time out. Durability might be an issue for him. Houston starter Chris Sampson has had tough start of the season, but I don't think he is that bad and definitely has potential. Astros' have been hitting well at home lately and I think there's some value on them as a nice sized home dog. Odds have dropped a bit, but took them at +145 last night.

we really do appreciate you doin all this work LT - another great contest ... but if you could post lines at the same time you post the thread that would be very helpful as often times for no apparent reason there are 3 or 4 games that arent listed and you have a bunch of guys posting picks based off lines they get from their respective books and not official posted contest lines. like right now its about 2 hours til first pitch and there arent any lines posted so we have to wait or guess in any case the game im looking to play might not even be available... so if you could tighten up on that i think we'd all appreciate it. thanks again for another great contest.

Gil Meche is very underrated right now since his last horrendous appearance against the tribe. Count on Meche to surprise linesmakers and defeat Aaron Laffey and the struggling tribe.

San Fran +155 I'll go with Lincecum over Hamel, just for the price. Getting a great pitcher who leads Hamel in both ERA and strikeouts.

As it says in the rules, I put up lines on ALL games that have underdogs of greater than +110 at the time I post the lines, usually shortly after 11 AM ET. So if the dog you like is more than +110, there is no guessing necessary.

Contreras has a 2.70 era his last 3 starts with a respectable 20 innings pitched, and if he can hang in there thru 5-6 innings, the Sox bullpen era is @ 2.20 on the road. They just need some hitting today.

Toronto is just .500 at home. Also, B-jay pitcher is 2-4 O.A. and a loser in each of his last three starts. Whitesox are a bargain at this high price.

This is the first time the Phillies see Lincecum. As much as I like Hamels, I can't ignore the high value on this one. This game can go 2-1 either way.

thanks LT. i figured there was some reasoning behind why some lines werent available. thanks for explaining that to me. ps. i feel sorry for everyone who is being roped in to sf today. hopefully no one is betting any actual money on san fran. the line opening at -185 says it all with lincecum at 0.00 era on the road this year.

today i am going with Houston +129: sheets is 1-7 in his last 8 decisions vs. houston and that is probablywhat is driving the line down in favor of houston. despite mil being a perfect 5-0 in sheet's starts this year and his 1.6 era vs sampson who is up over 7 era. sheets did get knocked around pretty good in his last start and there are rumors about an injured tricep with sheets and that he may not be at 100%. sampson seems to be getting good run support and with a WHIP more than double sheets he's gonna need it today. i'm really using houston more because no one else is. with too many people on sf and cws. i hate sf today anyway but i do like cws, but thats neither here nor there. the move is HOUSTON +129!!!!!

Arroyo is coming off his first quality start of the season and is trying to prevent the Reds from getting swept in Atlanta. There bats will finally wake up teeing off against Glavine. Look for the Reds to spoil the sweep.
