Welcome all to the Pair of 5s Sir season selections thread. Many of you who have followed in the past, know that I had a daily thread. But by requests of many, I intend on one thread for all selections.

My unit count will be based on a true count. One unit for one game. For example, if selecting the favorite at -160, it will be risking 1.60 units to win 1.0 units. Conversely a selection on a +160, I will be risking 1.0 units to win 1.6 units. This is thevtrue blue way of recording a true record. Each thread follower would be able to determine how much would I have profited or not by applying dollar amount pet unit.

My selection will include sides, RL and totals. Unlike last year, there will be no posting to the spreadsheet. With the anticipation of a number of iPhone postings, the spreadsheet is not technically solid. However, all posts will be posted to the thread.

As always, opposing points of view are welcomed. The thread goes from the start of the season and ends approximately half way thru the season, give or take a couple of weeks either way.

Baseball is officially peeking it's head over the horizon with the debut of the Pair of 5's 2010 thread. After the Superbowl there is not much between us and Spring Training.

I like Rangers and Marlins for a small play @ +2500.

In this thread I mentioned the unit count system I employ on order to provide an accurate account of the selections. Too many hypsters with their 5 unit, 10 unit and sometimes 20 unit picks. You have an opportunity to weigh in on how a unit count should be calculated.

For those who follow the contrarian, I occasionally come up up with a contrarian situation which involves a string of three plays. These selections involve money management and the ability to fade big favorites.

We start the year with the Cy Young string play. We fade Lincecum and Greinke in their season debuts and continue the fade until a loss. We only go three games for protection. Be the big dog number you will get at the beginning of the season, the string can land a profitable start to the season.

Of the two, I'm a bigger fan of fading Greinke early on but I like this strategy nonetheless.

Back home Contrarians to the east coast. The Las Vegas headquarters is all fine and dandy. Hung out at Caesars and Red Rock book during my trip along with sometime up in Mesquite at the Virgin River Book. The Virgin River book is associated with a network of books through the Southpoint Hotel and Casino.

As it relates to the string plays, money management is a key component. I have a formula that I am trying this year.

I would like to know the books that guys will use for bases. I am using 5dimes and Bodog.

I used BetJamaica last year. between them, bodog, and betED, betJM had the best lines by a wide margin. I'm not sure how 5dimes lines are though.

My plays are contrarian in nature. I have had much success in the financial markets, using contrarian plays. These are some of the factors considered that lead up to the selection.

What information does the public see, that makes the line, ie. ERA, streaks, and standings. This information for the novice players is overrated.

Does the line make sense, particularly on the favorite. Oftentimes, the public will use the above, overrated information to pound the favorite. They see the information, and move the line accordingly to no success.

Head to head records, where the line is lower than expected, for the dominating team.

There are several other triggers but I won't bore you.
