Someone mentioned a while back that they were misled on a website exactly how the wind was blowing in a specific stadium.

Here's a list I use when looking at wind; not sure all of the stadium names are up-to-date since they seem to change often these days. If anyone finds a discrepancy, let me know.

Pico, it's just a tool for determining how wind might affect a particular ballgame.

Also, weather.com has a listing of all the games that when you click on it, an arrow shows on the diamond which way the wind is blowing. For example, follow this link:

How about a list that classifies whether a park is a pitcher's park or a hitter's park. Anyone got any data or a list on that?

Minute Maid is a hitter's park down the LF line and a pitcher's park to straightaway center.

Hitters parks - phils , reds , astros , rockies . Pitcher friendly parks - Nats , Padres , Marlins , Giants , As , Mariners . More or less is true , Rockies has changed but still hitters park to me .

The Ballpark That Dubya Built up in Arlington, Texas, is far more a hitter's park than Houston.

Sorry for the tardy response, but just now seeing this post. The key is really knowing how winds react from certain directions in different parks. For instance, in old Candlestick you could have winds blowing in from left center which, on the surface sound like a good thing for pitchers. Yet those winds could swirl at home plate and be blowing out down the right field line.

I think under 10 MPH isn't going to affect most balls either way, speaking generally. Over 10 and you have to start thinking about them. If Jose Lima is on the mound, just think of the wind as blowing out at gale force

just curious - what else could this possibly be used for and while there may at times be some truth to wind blowing out helping a game go over just think about how many runs are scored as a result of a couple of walks, singles and errors. all i'm saying is when you start factoring the % of touchbacks a kicker has which teams punter has more balls pinned inside the 20 the you run the risk of handicapping yourself right out of the game. the only thing that matters or has ever mattered in winning money beting on sports is where the line is set at the open followed by a distant second where the line moves after it is set. you can make a mint going opposite lines that open too good to be true. ie tonights baseball stl -120 over san fran . you dont even have to watch the game just bet san fran and go to sleep wake up in the morning and find out how much san fran won by. keep it simple. to everyone else who insist on handicapping rather than just reading lines best of luck to you.

If the total is 9 and the wind is 10mph or higher, I bet the over for the game. If the total is 9 and the wind is 8mph or lower i bet the under for the game!

I think Old Comiskey used to sit the same way, trotter. But when they built the new park, they shifted it about 90°. According to this link, if you're standing at 2B and looking towards 3B, you are facing North. In fact, I'm assuming that the photo on that page in the link was taken in the afternoon, in which case it clearly shows the sun going down behind the 1B line of the stands (that way you avoid the danger of having a setting sun being in the hitter's eyes).

I believe you used to be able to count on two fingers the parks that weren't laid out with Home-to-Center being in an Easterly or SouthEasterly direction. Those two were Wrigley and Fenway. It was a rule to lay out fields in that manner in order to keep the setting sun out of the batter's eyes since all games used to take place in the afternoon way back when. That's how we got the word 'southpaw' for left-handers since they would be facing south when looking at a runner on first base.

It's not a rule any longer, though I do think teams have to go through a formal approval process to deviate too much from that.
