    Mlb 2012

will track all of my plays here. please feel free to chime in with your thoughts. all opinions and information are appreciated.

plays will range from 1u minimum to 5u maximum. all plays are to win amount (so, 2* Braves -109 means laying 2.18u to win 2u). i don't make many 5u plays, probably just a few per season.

one thing: i will use an apostrophe to signify a half-run (e.g., 7.5 = 7'). this is very professional, and will save us all a lot of time.

    BOL to all this season.

    Thursday 4.5.2012
    2* Braves ML (-109)

will probably add Jays/Tribe under later so long as we don't get an over ump there, waiting on a better number.

lot of uncertainty. both SPs off of injury, Mets revamping lineup now that Reyes gone, new dimensions in Citi Field. we're probably getting some value based upon Hanson not having good numbers vs Mets and the fact that Santana still has name value even though it's been a long time since we've seen him dominate.

hey, RoadDog, good to see you too. i don't blame you for being on the Jays. hottest team in spring training vs coldest (and coldest can't hit lefties). 3-0 seems like a definite possibility. BOL to you too, pal.

Ricky's a horse. I'm expecting a big game from him.

Potential bad news: Just saw report that Tim Welke is behind the plate for Jays/Tribe. That's bad for the under as Welke is a guy i simply don't like playing under with. Confirming.

per MLB.com, Tim Welke behind the plate in Cleveland. goddamn screwjob. no way could i play an over in this weather (wind so strong that it shattered a door on our building), but going under with Welke is playing with fire. nuts. oh well, plenty of season left...

When u say -1, does that mean -1 1/2? My book doesnt offer a -1 and Im just making sure because Ive seen other cappers do the same.

    Thursday 4.5.2012 final card
    2* Braves ML (-109) - LOSER
    2* Dodgers -1 (-118) - WINNER

1-1 -0.18u. passing on Jays/Tribe under turned out to be smart business.

sorry didn't answer this yesterday - went out to watch Tribe game and next thing i knew, it was this morning. actually, -1 means staggering your ML and RL wager so that your ML to win amount equals your RL stake, so that if your team wins by 1 run, you effectively push. some books (like 5D) offer -1 as an option. at others, you have to do the math yourself.

for example, if you wanted to play Rangers -1 today, ML is -178 right now, RL is +107. you'd lay 1.78u to win 1u on the ML, and 1u to win 1.07 on the RL. you'd be laying 2.78u to win 2.07u, which is roughly -134, and if the Rangers win by one run, you push (win 1u on the ML, lose 1u on the RL).

    Friday 4.6.2012
    3* Yankees/Rays under 7 (-110)

sure have missed the Trop. it's not guaranteed, but i suspect that we'll see Angel Hernandez behind the plate in Tampa (he was at first two nights ago in Miami, and MLB will likely keep the same crew in Florida). we got some serious over umps out of the way yesterday (T Welke, McClelland, Davis, Scott, DeMuth), obviating a great deal of risk on that front even if i'm wrong about Hernandez. Welke and McClelland are the two umps i never want with an under.

Liking the under here Biff Tee,mostly because I think C.C. can navigate that Tampa lineup today. After Longoria he's looking at:

    4. Jeff Keppinger (R) DH
    5. Sean Rodriguez (R) SS
    6. Elliot Johnson (S) 2B
    7. Carlos Pena (L) 1B
    8. Jose Molina (R) C
    9. Matt Joyce (L) LF

Pena and Joyce are nowhere near as effective against LHP's, and that 4-6 is about as soft as you will find in a major league lineup. Shields I will be keeping a close eye on this year though. He is a top tier pitcher but I think he regresses some this year. He made some adjustments last year with pitch usage that I think hitters will prepare for a bit better this year, and he also had better results than his peripheral numbers suggest. BOL on the play, I will most likely be on it too.

Learned something new today. Obviously you want the RL to win but its a way to protect your investment. Thanks man and good luck today.

i agree, Rescot, that Rays lineup is really toothless. Shields pitched pretty well against the Yanks last year, too. BOL to you today.
