In a related story, the Astros have promoted their waterboy to be the new starting CF.

8:59am: The Astros will receive center fielder Jordan Schafer, southpaw Double-A starter Brett Oberholtzer, righty Double-A starter Paul Clemens, and righty Triple-A reliever Juan Abreu, tweets ESPN's Jayson Stark. None of the three pitchers are top 50 prospects, but they did rank ninth, 26th, and 27th respectively for the Braves on Baseball America's preseason rankings.

I'm looking at these guys, and my first reaction is that the Astros GM went for quantity instead of quality.

All of Philadelphia's main rivals are loading up for the run....Braves, Giants, and Cards getting ready. All quiet in the American League for the most part with the exception of the Indians. Something tells me the Yankees are peaking out of the weeds.

I would be mad if I was the Astros soon to be new owners. The team is being sold, with practically no assets.

The guy making the trades will not be there next year, and he knows it.

This does not happen in the NFL. Lame duck coaches, and GM's are put on ice. This is just funny. DIS-Astros will be terrible for atleast another 6 years.

even putting him in as a pinch runner in late, tight games is a nice asset...Lastros also threw in $2 million...
it's like Uncle Drayton is trying to blow up the organization on his way out....

wow, great pick up by Atlanta, getting bourne who's a good hitter and a top notch defender at a premium position with out giving up a too much.

granted this is due to the fact that Atlanta is overflowing with pitching prospects, but good move seeing how they will be able to keep Bourne next year too with his last year of arb coming at what will be a fairly modest amount

Man, they trade Pence and now Bourne... I watched them play Mil last night and they looked even more horrible than before, like a minor league team playing. Kinda makes me want to just unload a big amount on Mil today !

    Fantastic move by the Braves.

Bourn has elite speed, plays elite defense and has had his best year of his career at the plate so far this season.

the Pence deal was a very good move, and the Bourne one boarderline, but the blame really falls on the cost cutting measure buy ownership.

They want payroll at about 60million next year, and seeing how Lee(19m), Meyers(12m), Wandy(10.5m), and Lyon (5.5m) will leave only 13m to fill out fill out 21+ spots. meaning they can't have any other players not under min contracts.
