    Default sonnanstines vs gavin floyd

    tampa finishes them off tomorrow
these whitesox are not good. they barely hung on today. (and i took chisox today)

two average pitchers, take the team with the awesome pen who can score without the long ball

    dogs rule

10-2 in the loffs so far for ryan

completely disagree, the sox will rock sonnastine tomorrow he is no good. The sox will win this game and cover their home field. The question is can they sneak away with a game 5 win in Tampa?

    chisox are on fumes dude
they are wasted floyd is no better than sonnanstines. plus the pen edge is huuuuge

we will see. this is a test of my mettle

    you are being a homer!

haha i may be being a homer....But I have thought that these teams would both get the job done at home. The sox bullpen has played much much better as of late, and Floyd is better than sonnanstine, that's not even a question, especially when you consider this game is in Chicago, that's a big advantage. And by the way the sox didnt hit a home run today and they put up 5....

sox pen has been better than the rays? or better than it previously was?

    tb wins and finishes
    watch !

better than it previously was...And in the beginning of the year the sox had the best pen in baseball. They look like they are returning to that form.

I hope you're wrong! At least if the Angels end up winning this game tonight I get to see the Sox play 3 hours earlier than I would if boston won haha

I like the Sox in game 4, to force a game 5, Floyd and Sonnastine have both quietly been dynamic this season, but I like the Sox at home. The Rays have an edge in bullpens, but there biggest edge comes when they have a lead with Balfour, Howell coming out as specialists. I havent decided on a side yet, but lean Sox. Rays win in 5.

Floyd has emerged as the White Sox ace. Calling him average is an insult. Chicago may lose today, but Floyd will bring his A game. You can count on that. I will be on Chicago for 4 units and the under for another 2.

he isnt an ace. he may be their ace. but i doubt anyone on any team in the league is afraid of gavin floyd and his .97 hits per inning

he also has fallen off since his nice start
he is a number 3 starter the last 2 months

I rate Sonnanstine as the ray's third best pitcher. He pitched a shutout against the whitesox earlier this seaon and has a career era of 2.96. Floyd does pitch much better at home. Floyd gave up 86 hits in 111.2 innings at home. He does occasionly make a mistake and give up a homerun. He gave up 18 homeruns in home games. His WHIP is 1.12 in home games which is really good. Both pitchers will give each club a quality start. I like the under 4.5 runs at 4.5 innings of this game.

Why should the Sox rock Sonnanstine today if they have never hit him well before? Floyd had a breakout year, but he did wear down late, while Sonnanstine finished strong. Don't be fooled by Floyd's last start, the Tigers didn't want to be there. He only had one Quality Start out of five starts before that.

You left out that Sonnanstine had a much stronger finish that Floyd did. Floyd had a 4.81 ERA and 1.35 WHIP in September while Sonnanstine had a 3.16 ERA and a great 1.02 WHIP the last month of the year.

Yes, Floyd has better YTD numbers at home than he does on the road, but he has just two Quality Starts in his last six home starts and one of those was last week vs. a Tigers team that was disinterested in extending their gloomy season by an extra day.

Well you'd only lose two units if you hit the Under.

LT, I have to agree with you on your assessment of Floyd and Sonnanstine. Floyd pitched well against a tigers team that did not care too much except to start the offseason.

Sonnanstine had very good numbers in sept 2008. His record was not impressive (0-3) and that was not his fault. In 5 september starts, Sonnanstine was 0-3, 31.1 innings pitched, 24 hits allowed, 8 walks, 3.16 era, .205 BA and a 1.02 WHIP. THe Rays did not score too many runs for him and the the Rays defense made some errors.

Floyd's stats in Sept were not great. Floyd had 6 september starts. He was 2-2, pitched 39.1 innings, allowed 47 hits, 22 runs, 6 walks, 7 HR, 4.81 era, .292 BA. Floyd's era (4.81) was highest for any month in 2008. IN 4 of those 6 starts, Floyd allowed 4 or more runs.

Even though Sonnanstine was 0-3 in sept starts, He is pitching in much better form than Floyd is.

Score prediction: Rays 4 Whitesox 2

Right, W/L record means absolutely nothing when comparing pitchers and this is a perfect example of that.

That was his only non-quality start against them, he was three for three in QSs before that including a Complete Game three-hit shutout. And even allowing four runs in 6.1 innings is not disgraceful in the AL.

    you guys overvalue starters

lets say these two are a wash. whose pen is better? whose d? whose manager?

tampa is heads and shoulders better
    at plus money

its insane to pass that up

you guys are doing chisox just like you did cubs i think

    rays win

Sonnanstine offers nothing when it comes to stuff. No stuff = disaster vs a HR hitters. Thome, Dye, Konerko all have a good chance of taking this guy deep. Floyd's stuff is above average although he doesn't have the 95 MPH heat.

    Take the Sox.

sonnanstine knows how to pitch. he isnt an idiot. people really overvalue starters

    teams matter more
and tb is a great team and chisox are not

TB's OPS is a full 8 points lower than the White Sox....

Rays were 1 game under .500 on the road in the Regular Season, and the Sox were 26 games over in the Regular season at home.

Floyd Home stats: 10-3, 1.12 WHIP, 3.55 ERA, and .209 BAA.
Sonnanstine Road stats: 6-5, 1.21 WHIP, 4.35 ERA, and .273 BAA.

Sox are the play my friend. Got them at -124 at matchbook.

Rays will win the series, just not tonight.

I love the Rays in this one but the Rays just sucks a$$ on the road for some reason or the other. Floyd, I love his pitching for the Sox and I was gonna make a play on him but his last starts were horrible in my opinion. He got beat up by a lowly Royals team and almost lost it to the Yanks.. He's at home now so he should be more calm and relaxed... I might play the rays at moneyline but the rays are like night and day when they're on the road...

    whitesox hitters vs sonanstine

    thome 4/12, hr
    konerko 1/8
    dye 1/6
    swisher 2/12
    Ramirez 2/9

Thome is the only whitesox hitter to hit a homerun against Sonanstine. Whitesox catcher is the only with good numbers against sonanstine.

The Sox are one of only 3 remaining American League teams as well....And they are at home. They are not laying much juice here they are the play. This is much like the Twins game RyanXL when you took the Twins because they were getting +numbers. They arent getting enough plus numbers here when you consider that more likely than not the Sox win this game. They have not lost a single game so far when it was a must win at home IMO

    dude, i took chisox yesterday
im not an idiot. if i think its a good pick i will do it. to me garza isnt shit.

but this isnt danks, and it isnt garza

i just dont think the chisox are good. they are old and slow and cant score without homers, or dwayne wise doubles.
this is not the twins, this is the rays.
the chisox are done, they havent given up, i will give them that, unlike the cubs

but you are being a homer my man
