The whole NCAA regulations on athletics is a joke.How many full time athletes whether it be football,basketball,womens basketball etc.etc.etc.get meaningful degrees.Hell,it would be tough for a kid that's got a brain to do well in school trying to obtain a meaningful degree with all the time taken out for sports and other distractions.
Why don't they just quit the snow job and come clean on how easy it is for a kid in sports to get a fluff degree where most aren't smart enough to achieve getting one.You can major in marketing,sports stadium lawn care maintenance,psychology,communications and the school can make sure you get the most lenient-liberal teachers in those majors.If a kid playing sports can't get those degrees,you should be put on academic probation as a team.
I don't have a problem with dumb kids in major sports colleges getting scholarships because the program brings in alot of money to the school.I did have a problem with affirmative action womens sports though where the school -tax payer has to pay to subsidise the teams who don't generate revenue.I'm even warming up to the fact that womens sports are bad but acceptable if they try to recruit local gals.The division 1 UMD Bulldogs womens hockey team where I live is made up of Russian women who are pretty rough and tumble and problem children.Then you have colleges with golf teams where the whole team is made up of foreigners.That's the most outrageous crock of crap in my book!!!!!I wonder if a kid in america that wants to play rugby or cricket would get a full scholarship ride in England or India?Hell no!
