Pat,
I'll try to help...It depends on whether you're a pitcher or a position player.
First, some unsolicited advice:
1. Look like a baseball player - baseball pants/cleats/hat/glove. A bunch of people show up at these with cut-off jeans/tank tops, baseball hats turned around backwards, etc. This does not impress the scouts.
2. Have practiced your skills before hand - run the 60, field ground balls if you're an infielder/fly balls if you're an outfield, take BP with a wooden bat (it's a lot different than aluminum), throw your pens if you're a pitcher.
Positon players will:
Run the 60 yr dash - if you're not sub 7 you better be a catcher or be able to crush the ball if you're a corner infielder or corner outfielder)
Field and throw from their positon (infield/outifeld/catcher - stop watch time from glove to glove from home to second)
Take batting practice with wooden bats
Pitchers will:
get loose long tossing in the outfield and throw a brief bull pen with the radar gun on them
The pitchers that light the radar gun (90+ for right handers / 87-88 mph left handers) may get an opportunity to throw to the few hitters that they like.
Best of luck...If you have time to practice your 60 time.
HAVE FUN!!!!
These things are largely cattle calls. They'll have several hunderd people show up at these things. They might sign one or two people. But remember that people do get signed out of these tryout camps. Best of luck.
